What do you use your Delay Pedal for?

What kind of band applications do you use your delay pedal for? What kind of delay sounds do you find most useful?

I just use my delay for spacey funk or solo things.

Psychedelic breakdowns to add ambience. My band does a lot of psychedelic breakdowns.

Droning ambiance underneath guitar intros or breakdown sections. I use it on a harmonic line to add some depth/interest.

I usually use mine for building a rhythm using palm mutes while I'm slapping. It really thickens things up.

solo type stuff or dark ambience...I like to run a little delay (set for ducking) and slight flange together in a few tunes to give it that dreamy/dark kinda feel (ie, "Born under a Bad Sign")...

All of the mentioned uses plus self-oscillating goodness.

Also, I've been using the warp function on my Boss DD-6 to create percussion parts. It's good to be a solo guy...

The band I'm in is a post-punk sort of thing, so I play a lot of melodic "lead" bass lines through a Clone Theory pedal and sometimes some echo is called for. Sometimes a slapback kind of thing, sometimes a more echoey thing...

Well, I use a phrase sampler for all kinds of things from building weird loopy stuff to working out multiple parts. I use 4 seconds or so for smaller scale ambient things, about 30-40 ms, either with little feedback to stretch out my legato volume swells, or with a little more feedback and some slow phaser for chopper style psychedelia. I've also used a really short setting with no feedback as a subtle chorus with a fretless.
I haven't used delay with a group. It just seems to get in the way for me playing regular songs.

I use mine to add some spacey type ambiance to a ending of a song. Other than that I use it for its loop function. Practice melodic ideas and such.

Check out Aurora's Dance, Tom Jones Boots & Head Trip to hear what I'm doing with the delay & tape echo on my Akai Headrush.

Intros, quieter parts in songs (where guitar & bass aren't playing the same thing)...basically it can be used anywhere... just like any other effect. Depends on what type of delay you're talking about? Long delay? Slapback can be used for most funk applications.

I use my Space Echo through another cab and max up the volume then I have my Volume pedal that I throw in. Turn it up a bit to get the reverb going so that with a clean sound gets pretty nice. I'lll kick it up when I feel like it and when I don't need it, shift the volume down.

BUt I use my DD3 a lot when I'm either messing with feedback or in one song in particular I like it to echo my fifths out once when I move to my next ones.

I'am an a self confessed Delay Whore , my bands written 4 songs already and i've used delay in each one, either sparingly or for the whole thing. Delay IMO is the best effect out there.

I'm using it in a Post-Rock group to add ambiance and depth, ephasis to certain patterns, etc. I'm using it sparingly in a Post-Hardcore/Post-Punk band at certain points, sometimes to make it thicker, add depth, sometimes to make quiet parts more interesting, etc.

Its issentially the only effect other than different stages of distortion any of the band uses. The guitar player runs a Dano Delay into a DD-3, and frequently turns both on during more spacy parts of songs. Its awesome for those crazy noise parts.

soundscapes, ambient parts, reverse swells, ringmodulatorish sounds, slight pitch shifting, looping...you can do so many wonderful things with delay. I am currently using line6 dl4, digitech digidelay and akai headrush2 and I love them all...all...all...all...all....
