What effect does Chris Wolstenholme use...

...to make him look so miserable onstage?

Just got the HAARP DVD and, despite him playing a dream gig at a dream venue, he doesn't so much as raise a smile throughout! What's with him?

Great DVD despite that though!

I thought the same thing when I saw the thread but look what he actually wrote. Still, probably belongs in another forum but oh well.

Yeah I saw Muse on "Later... With Jules Holland" recently and I was a little surprised. Chris wasn't much to watch and as a result they barely cut over to him. The sound was bad too but that show is inconsistent with that a lot of the time.

There is a point where he's grinning from ear to ear and looks like he's about to burst out laughing in the middle of a song. I'd like to know what pedal he used to do THAT.

That was when his pager went off. He has a program on his home computer that tracks mentions of his name on Talkbass, and it automatically pages him every time the number of mentions passes a thousand.

I think that's the look on your face you get when you realize that matt bellamy is probably taking an 80/10/10 cut behind your back

I think its the look of getting married before you become famous, and having to turn down all of those fans throwing themselves at you

I was stood right in front of him on the saturday, and he gave one big grin in the performance, just as he was playing TIRO. Reckon that song...erm...pleases him?

Very good! Alternatively, along similar lines, this could take the smile off anyone's face, I'm sure:

He's English. That's the beginning and the end of it.

I t is called professonalism. He plays the same way in front of 200 people (I have seen that) and 20,000 people (I have seen that).

FWIW... 10% of what they make is enough for me.... And what is with all the bashing of a great player of our time. He may not be the best at everything, but he is a heavy effects user, and is a great bass player when it comes to speed, and ability.

Just because he doesn't smile on stage?????

I hope none of you every see me play.

I dont smile, I be as metal as possible, if i could it would just be constant windmill throughout the whole set. But that would hurt.

Jokes aside, he's probably concentrating. I mean, he does have to play bass and tap dance at the same time.

It's the intro to "Map of the Problematique". I never smile onstage, just my thing... doesn't mean anything.

He doesn't smile? Maybe people arent watching the same videos as me. The time I saw them in liverpool, when he started Hysteria, he was grinning from ear to ear! The times that he isn't smiling, he's headbanging!

Look at Butterflies and Hurricanes and/or Apocalypse Please on the DVD (I know I'm late to the party here.) And none of them really smile a whole hell of a lot save for Dom anyway.

You've got to hand it to him though; the man gets into his music. He had a doctor's order to stop headbanging for a few months back in 06 just because of the collective whiplash he'd accumulated.
