| | | What effect (or effects) to buy?

Hi guys.
I want to buy some new effects (or maybe a multieffect). I don't know almost anything about effects, but I'm thinking about an overdrive (or fuzz), a compressor and maybe a chorus.
I play mainly alternative rock music. My current gear is a G&L Tribute L-2500 and a Laney Harcore Max 65 amp.
What do you suggest to me? Is it better to get individual pedals than a multieffect pedal? What other effects dou you think I should consider?
Please help me cause I live in another country so I need to know your experiencies with the effects you have got to take my decision. |

If you read up in the FAQ at the top of this sub-forum, you might find what your looking for anyways.
If you fill out your profile, we'll be able to help you better (your location since you say you are in another country. Presumably your not in the USA then.). |

multi-effects i am not so much a fan of.
pedals- compressor and overdrive are a great start. i personally use a dbx160- press the "over easy" button. its always on and sounds how i like it. i also use a sansamp bddi.
start with a price range. check here and youtube for soundclips. |

Overdrive: I've continued to try them out, and I have yet to find one that works in a band setting. So I'm still looking too.
Also, I'd recommend taking a peek at the Boss Bass Chorus and EBS Octave pedal. And if you have a lot of spare cash and want to make some insane noises, check out Moog's Bass Murf. |

| | | | Which ones do you think are the best compressor and overdrive/fuzz/distortion pedals? That's what I'm looking for. I mean, I want to change the character of the bass, no weird stuff for now. |

For my use there is way too much useless sounds in multieffects. On the otherhand if you wanna test what different effects do, then cheapo multi-one would work perfectly for that.
I´m using TC Electronics Vintage Bass Distortion (A.K.A T-REX Bass Juice) myself. besides that I have tuner pedal (TU-2) and also EBS´s MultiComp but I don´t have any use for it and in fact am selling it. Propably am getting chorus and wah wah.

For saristi : first of all you need to know what kind of sound/change that you after, you search should start from there.

I prefer singles, but I did get an old used Zoom unit to become familiar with what sounds I wanted to achieve. |

| | | | Get a multi (I have a Digitech BP80) and see what you like. Them you can go out and buy individual pedals to replace and/or supplement the multi.
Eventually i'm gonna go on the supplement route.
Since I have some patches that sound wonderful but other sounds aren't too great.

Also, check eBay/Craigslist/TB classifieds to find anything used before you buy new. Worst case scenario, you sell it for about what you paid for it.

| | | | In my opinion it depends on what you want each to sound like. i think that when you buy seperate pedals it lets you really specify what you want it to sound like. With seperate pedals you can control the sound better in my opinion. multi effects are good but its all in your opinion
if you only want like 2 pedals then i would probabl buy them seperately but if you were to want somehere around 4 or 5 then go with a multieffect.
hope this helps | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
