What effect is he using on the intro to this song?

I'm looking for a cheap way to mock this sound. I'm not looking for expensive pedals that I won't need. Just something to cop this sound.

Love the Doobie's. Sounds like some kind of envelope filter, maybe with a chorus.

I don't know what pedal could get you close to that because none of mine could.

Great track though.

Saskatoon! I played there like 30 years ago. Sheraton Top of The Inn. Nice place and people.

Thanks,

I can hear chorus, but maybe he has it set weird to get that warbled tone?

Oh you mean the intro! I think it is something in the phaser/flanger family.

Almost sounds like on of those old pedals from the 80's. Electro harmonix?

Sounds like a Chorus with a slight envelope. Get a cheap chorus and an envelope filter. Should set you back about 80-100 bucks if you look hard enough. Good luck!

given the era I'm going to guess it's a Mu-tron and that it's some combo of the Envelope follower and the phasor or maybe the Bi-Phase.

Electro Harmonix makes a close copy of the envelope follower called a Q-tron. That's and the above mentioned Small Stone should get you close. So will any bass multi-effects board by Zoom, Boss, Line 6 etc. even the older ones will have these effects so don't be afraid to look for used to save your dosh.

I just don't want to spend alot on a one trick pony. If I have to get a multi-effect I will definitely look used.

Fretless, light phaser and reverb, had me there in no time. I was using a uni-vibe emulation, but I think something like the Small Stone would work just fine.

Thanks. I thought it sounded like a fretless, but I will make do using my SR5 with flats.
