hey guys, i was intrested in what bass effect the bassist from " PROM KINGS " uses, if anybody is familar with the album he uses it alot... it's sort of a distorted synth type of sound, but i dont know jack about stomp boxes.

you'll need itunes to listen to the 30 second clip, (listen to DOWN )

Sounds like it could be an auto wah. My Ibanez Bass Synth on slow decay and auto wah mode sounds similar.

Sounds to me like the bass has a distortion on it, and the tracks are layered so the guitar(s) are occupying some of the bass range so all together it just sounds like one massive distorted bass sound. But I don't think that sound can quite be gotten with even the best of distortion pedals. Regarding the funkier squelchier effect-y tones, that's a synth (keyboard). Yes there are synth pedals, and you can find out a lot by searching on the word "synth", but IMO the easiest and best way to get those particular sounds is with a keyboard synth. I do not believe the bassist is causing those more electronica-like tones. I guess if you just wanted to get "close" then a resonant filter that can dial in more than just the typical "wakka wakka" funk, say the Mooger MF101 for example, could get you close.

sounds like theres a MF101 in there somewhere..its some kind of synth playing those basslines. weather its a deep impact, or a keyboard synth, that i dont know..most likely its a good keyboard synth though..

closest i could get to that is an electronix messdrive on high gain..but thats not quite synthy enough for that exact sound. sorta close though.
