| | | | BYOWW BYOWW BYOWW I like the MXR I just got. It was brand new in the box and I got it from a guy on Craigslist for $100.
It took some playing around with the 5 controls to get the sound I wanted, but I got it.
Cool unit - looks really well made.
I'd recommend it.

- 3 Leaf Audio Groove Regulator or the NEW Proton
- Exar Pig Nose
(i don´t like: DOD FX-25B, Maxon/Ibanez AF-9, EHX Q-Tron+)
BUT, only 1 envelope filter on the pedal board is NEVER enough .... every one has its own character, and also a question of personal taste, also active/passive bass could make a difference with each filter. Try to buy many used filters on ebay/craiglist and test&tweak them for some days ... if you like it: keep it, otherwise sell it and buy another one .... thats what i´m doing right now .... i want to test the MXR M82 and PROTON ... |

| | | | Does the MXR get wet enough and, does the Enigma have so many knobs that set up is a drag? |

If you want a simpler filter for 150 or less, I'd go with the EBS BassIQ |

Not that I'm bitter...
But, to get on topic, get a big-box EHX Q-Tron. Not a Q-Tron+, but a plain ol' Q-Tron. I have one, and although I'll certainly try other envelope filters, I'm not in a burning hurry to do so, nor will I give up my Q-Tron for any other.

Since I don't know what tone you specifically want I'll just suggest the Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter. You really ought to seriously consider the Source Audio BEF. The range of filter tones you get for $120 is truly outstanding, and it's easy to recreate tones after you've dialed them in.

1. ehx xo qtron
2. maxon af9
in that order
the mxr is also a good choice. ive only heard samples though, but as you can see it could be a great alternative; seems a lot of tbers love it. |

But the BEFis a great one and for the price it is outstanding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afc6w...eature=related

If you're going for a unique sound, get a Nano Bassballs and have it modded to have the internal trim pots accessible from the outside. Purchase and mod will probably cost you just around 110 $. The mod can be done, there's a thread around here somewhere that show how to DIY.

| | | | I'm still looking for *the* filter. I have a Protron coming today or tomorrow so hopefully that will be "the one".
I've tried the AF-9, EBS BassIQ, MXR, Boss AW-3, Boss AW-3, BassBalls and I'm sure a few others that I've forgotten. I didn't like any well enough to keep them on my pedalboard.
EDIT: just checked USPS and my Protron is in town. Not sure if it will be delivered today or tomorrow though. (USPS' tracking has greatly improved, BTW.)
