What are the most popular effects for bass? I am thinking of the following 3 1. Chorus 2. Compressor 3. Octave pedal Which ones do you find you use the most? |
tuner! (sorry, ate a clown for breakfast) well ... i think out of those 3: compressor |
1. Distortion/Fuzz/OD 2. Envelope Filter Those are mine. I plan on picking up a chorus pedal soon but my guitarist loves to use chorus every chance he gets so I don't think it'll get much use If you're unsure of what effects to get, get a multi. A Zoom B3 can handle everything you're asking for. |
I think that by far, overdrive is the single most popular effect I have seen discussed and used on boards. From the bassists just looking to add a little thickness to their sound, to outright distortion. The effect provides a foundation for a lot of music. Everything else is second fiddle to overdrive. |

It could be debated that a compressor is or iznot an effect, same with tuner, so let's take it out of the equation. So I'd go: 1. envelope filter 2. chorus 3. dirt (overdrive/distortion/fuzz) |
Comp is an effect. It actually affects the sound wave of your instrument. A tuner simply measures the frequency at which you are playing. No effect there |

Most Common effects that I've seen used: Internal: (usually in amp pre section) > EQ > ( OD / tube distortion > Compressor > Amp/Cab simulators External: (rack or pedals) > OD/distortion/fuzz > Compressor > EQ > Envelope Filters (Phasers/Flangers/Wahs) > Octavers > MultiEffects I haven't got a huge sample, so I could be way off in the order of things. It will vary depending on the genre. I doubt a lot of country bassists use fuzz pedals! |
The most popular effect is polyrhythmic multidubtronofiltering but most people haven't heard of it. |
I think the most popular effect is loudness. |

Yeah, I hear ya. I put chorus because of personal preference, but it was a toss up with octave. |
Here's what I use ... Distortion Compression Amp Modeling Equalization Chorus Flange http://www.3dentourage.com/425/effects.htm |

Otherwise, you might want to retract the electric part. |
Compressor and a mild overdrive (to emulate a tube head if you want that standard rock tone). |
I rank them: 1. Overdrive/distortion 2. Compression (I don't use it anymore but a lot of bass players do) 3. Octave down 4. Envelope filter 5. Chorus 6. Reverb/delay I stop at envelope filter. |
my top 3 would have to be 3.tremolo 2.delay 1.reverb but i think the top most popular i hear about the most is probably 3. Octave 2. Envelope Filter 1. Fuzz |
