I was in a Post Hardcore noisy type band for a long time and used my Whammy pedal a lot along with a Rat Tail and a delay.
Now I'm in a different band that is more like an art rock/indie/heavy math thing and use a Whammy my Rat Tail a Green Muff clone, a Grey Stache and reverb and delay. I get to stretch out a wee bit more and am kinda the "sound design" guy in this band.
Miles between embryo and the death scene
I have my PWNZOR on all the time, my B7K 50% of the time. Other effects come and go depending on how many other instruments are layered at one time. I usually only turn on my modulations and time based effects when I am the only rhythm instrument playing. Otherwise, it really doesn't come through and impact the listener's experience of the song.

My compressor (MXR M87) is on pretty much all the time. My B7K is on about 90% of the time. My Pitchfactor and Supersynth get occasional use (on bass, my Pitchfactor is a huge part of my guitar playing). My other pedals are more "toys," used only in practice and/or sparingly (for bass; some of these same ones get more use on guitar).

Every gig we play I'll use:
Boss OC-2 for one song
Chorus (Zoom B3 or TCE Corona) for a few sections of a few songs
Flange (Zoom B3 or Boss BF-2) for a few sections of a few songs
Dirt (B3K or ParaDriver) you guessed it...for a few sections of a few songs
Empress Comp has been always on lately
Current board is: OC-2 > B3 > Empress Comp > ParaDriver
I like to use effects to give me different flavors when I want it. "My" tone is just my hands playing my bass going into an amp for the most part. It's pretty gritty/growly already
