What's the best Compresion pedal to buy?

I was using the Compression on My Carvin BX500 Amp and it was perfect for just a little crunch. I have replaced the Carvin with Hartke LH1000 which I love but only has 3 tone knobs. I've never really been much for using effects but I miss the sound I got from the Compression on the Carvin. Even if I was not using it "right", It gave me a sound that I loved.

Take a look at ovnilab.com/index.shtml for reviews of nearly every compression pedal available. Also do a search of this forum and you'll find tons of info from others who have gone through the quest for a compression pedal.

Not sure. But I do recommend you check out this site:

http://www.ovnilab.com/

It's a good general education on the subject, plus many, many compressor reviews, specific to bass.

I found the Aguilar the best one if you and a transparent compressor that does not change your tone or get in the way. It can compress and control your signal quietly and effectively.

Yep, lots of great info on Bongo's site. Should be able to find some good ideas there.

I use a 3Leaf PWNZOR. It's the first compressor I don't feel like I'm fighting with for dynamics, and it adds a certain unexplainable something (fatness...?) to your tone.

Yep, visit ovnilab. Be sure to read the FAQ section, so you can make an informed decision on what is best for you. But as others have said, Aguilar, Fea, 3Leaf, and not mentioned yet Diamond, and Empress(which I use and love), are all really great.

I ended up getting a Mint in Box DOD Milk Box. It should prove to be useful from what I've read about it.
