Yes, and to be honest, so far it is always on . But, it was like 5$ extra and sounded fun/interesting/maybe-useful-at-some-point at the time I ordered it.

I totally do the same thing, at the earliest moment I can. You have to get to the New Pedal Smell before it gets a chance to seep through the box and fizzles into the Great Beyond never to be smelled again.

I've been trying to get more information on exactly how it was done, but what I was told, is that it was enhanced for better bass response. From what I hear, it does respond really well to the bottom end. It stays pretty clear and doesn't have a tendency to "squash" when I kick in heavy bottom like a lot of compressors do.
