Over-kill, it would seem, for a 4 pedal board, but you are in the mood for boost before dirt, or dirt before dirt you have the options before you without rewiring your board. For players that just cannot make up their mind as to which order is best, the answer is now simply, "yes". |

5sg. | It is okay to not own a fuzz pedal for bass. It is okay. I mean, it will make you an outcast among us, but if you are comfortable with that, so are we. |

5sg. | That's it! Hand in your badge and any pedal power you may be carrying. We obviously need to investigate this matter further. Until then, don't leave town, you may be brought back in for further questioning. |

But I have to agree, probably WAY more than I need right now.
Okay, probably way more than I'll *ever* need. |

Fortunately, I'm perfectly okay playing the part of Quazimoto hanging out in the bell tower. You guys can come visit when you need advice on envelope filters. lol

woooo! got a (my fourth) Aggie GS112 off of NeilB here on TB. seemed like a really nice dood. AWESOME that he was just a 45 minute drive from my spot. i HATE waiting on shiping, and i detest paying for shipping amps/basses.
my Peavey IPR1600 should be coming in tomorrow. yay! |

In: my 2nd Mesa Diesel 1x15 w/ evm 15L. them paired with my gandl sb-2 and Ampeg V4B has created an extremely (and overly) aggressive bedroom rig. Need to get into my new place to set up my jam room again.
As far as pedals go, Im not really sure what I want to try next. May swap out the bass fuzz deluxe for a muff variant (again...), possibly the pickle pie B (again...). Still thinking about picking up an envelope filter. Signal chain so far is Bass fuzz deluxe > Darkglass b3k > Iron Ether Nimbus > TCE Flashback > Polytune Mini. I usually have a wah at the beginning but its gone for now. think I will always have a wah or filter in my chain, and since Ive never tried a filter, except at stores, I think it may be my next purchase. Any ideas on a filter? Havent looked into them too much, would like to keep it small, and the only reason Im really interested in a filter is cause I would like a little more control than a wah, and not have to be stuck in place to use it, but I would attempt to use it to achieve wah like sounds. Im playing rock music, so nothing too funky, looking at the MXR BEF as an intro to filters especially since it has a blend. All filter demos Ive seen, I find the filter to be too much so I feel the dry blend on the mxr would help me in this case. Any input is appreciated!
TL;DR - Filter suggestions for rock/able to achieve wah like sounds? Thanks folks.

I prefer lowpass filters most of the time for bass but maybe you should look at filters that offer both and that have a CV or expression jack so you can still get your manual sweeps on. No experience with it personally but maybe take a look at the WMD Super Fatman. If you're fine with lowpass only then I highly recommend the Xerograph Deluxe.

I'm a filter freak and have tried/owned a lot of filters in my effects journey (my Proton V2 makes 23! ) and the best ones for me and the sound I like have always been lowpass filters. Bandpass loses too much low end, IMO.
The MXR is a good little filter. Lots of filter sounds in that little purple box, and being able to blend the dry and effected signal is a key with that filter. That said, the BEF was a little too bright sounding overall for my personal taste.
I've tried the WMD Super Fatman and it's a little too complicated for my taste. That filter will cook dinner with your sound and then chew it up and splat it on the wall, but it's got a pretty steep learning curve... even more controls than the Barge Concepts Grinder I sold off for the same reason. All the control you could ever want in a filter and then some, not to mention the LFO. Not the easiest to dial in though, particularly on the fly. (disclaimer up front: I'm NOT endorsed by 3Leaf, they're just the best filters I've tried.)
My top fav filters are Spencer's 3Leaf filters. Spencer is a bass player, and his filters show it... super funky on bass. His Wonderlove demo basically says it all for me. I haven't yet tried the WL, but I currently own a Groove Regulator, GR2 and Proton V2, won't be getting rid of any of them. And oh Loooord do they sound KILLER with an octaver! The 3Leafs can do any filter sound from mild to Bootsy, but here's my ideal filter sound, which I can get with them: The Philadelphia Experiment - Ain't It The Truth
The Pigtronix EP2 is tied as a top fav, but might not be for everyone. It's got such a unique voicing, even without the Phaser side which is just the icing on the cake. Interestingly, my EP2 has actually earned specific requests for its use. Check out the the sound clips on their product page, Bathiki Kumalo's samples in particular.
Tussin, I'd say start with the Wonderlove if you can. The GR1/2 are good balances of control and ease of use, with a killer sound. I can only imagine a hands on of the Wonderlove (call it the GR3? lol) would prove the same.

Also check out his 3-disc set Live at the Tonic, if you haven't already. I'm pretty convinced that guy could play any style at the drop of a hat. I hope to eventually be at that level.
You're right, he was using an ME-50B at the time, not sure if he still is though. His website still has it listed, but who knows. I've been tempted to pick one up just to check out the envelope filter. lol
Sure thing Tussin. Filter is my top fav effect, so I'd be happy to shoot the breeze with you if you have any questions or need info. Shoot me a PM any time. I could send you the full list of what I've tried if it helps you out, too.
