Sign in to disble this ad
ok since the local GC doesn't stock all the sansamp pedals i'm looking/listening to clips when i can and,,i see the `red ripper',sounds interesting,,,

so i guess my question is if you had to buy ONE sansamp/tech21 pedal to give me as much tubey character and fuzzy gritty options to my clean SState power(doesn't HAVE to be the ripper or vt,i'll buy whatever)what would it be from tech 21?,sold all my pedals months ago, been running clean,i need a fix bad!

buddy told me to buy a `bass driver' and i'd be happy=now i'm confused

not at all douchey to go into a section of the forums DEDICATED to effects and talk about how it's a win running without them. implying it's a fail to use them. good for you. you're a nice person.

sounds like he wants advice on what TECH 21 PREAMP STYLE PEDAL to go with since..... i dunno...... that's what he said in his original post......

OP - i've not used the Leeds, but Big CHIEFFFFFFF is a man among men, so you should try to check that out. i do LURV my VT Deluxe tho. very nice if you have different sounding basses you want to plan for.

good luck!

to quantify>

i'm dying for some` growly tube type tone' and even though i am making a decent living i can't throw down for an Ampeg head like i want to(yet) soooooo,,when i hear certain songs i `just have to have that tone',,

and all i have is clean,,the wonderful Peavey 300 combo is all i currently own out of the pile of combos i had back in July, great for practising and can jam 2 instruments on it(it won't be going up for sale it's my `shop amp' i keep in my autobody shop) but i need some grit,,grunt,,some uh`celulite' on my thighs

just hit a music store and a pawn shop,,,didn't find anything other than buying a whole new rig or some`guitar pedal',then i just borrowed a `grunge pedal' from a neighbor,,just to get rid of the shakes

seriously tho' i've never heard of the `Leeds' pedal def. sounds like a UK brand,hey!,7PM west coast!have to run and call the GC at the far end of valley here and see just what they do have(they stay open till 8),thanks for the replys folks

the Leeds is also made by Tech 21, it's another one of the Sansamp series. Whereas the VT Bass is an emulation of an Ampeg, the Leeds is an emulation of a Hiwatt. They're both grindy tube amp emulators. They just emulate different amps. And I like Hiwatts better than Ampegs

No pedal. Get the RBI or the RPM ( or both).

it does if you like hiwatt. and hiwatt is a great sound. for me, ampeg's always been king so i'm all about the vt. guess it depends on your frame of reference.

The Leeds adds a boatload of character. I am very happy with mine as well.

The Youtubes has some good samples (couple bass samples hidden in the first two): Leeds, Oxford and VT

I would have to agree with Mr. Behndy.... and especially to recommend a multiFX.

(Kind of in an ornery mood tonight.)

I'd say try the GT-2. I use both on Guitar and Bass for some really nasty tones, and it'll do some nice smooth tube tones, just a light edge of hair. Personally I find that the GT-2 is a good mix of all the different character pedals, sure it won't get you exactly on for every single tone but there is a lot in that box.

I've yet to try a VT (though I quite want one) but between the Leeds and Oxford, I'd go for the latter. Less metallic than the Leeds, warmer to my ears. I've heard it also does a pretty good sludgy/doomy sound.

it's Jimmy'mMm'good's fault. he went on an angry, angry (well-spoken) rant about people that go into the efx forum and say how dumb it is to need efx. and likened it to extolling the virtues of an electric bass in the DB section. ever since, i just can NOT understand people that speak up in a thread, talking **** about somebody's choice, IN THE FREAKING SECTION SET ASIDE FOR IT.

you yiff in hell you trolly, TROLLY ********.

hurm. trying to think of the longest cursey word. i want to put a LOT of stars back to back.

'cause he's the goddamn Batman. and he can breathe in space.
