Funny question, eh? I'm basically phasing out using my Boss VF-1, and getting just a couple nice pedals to replace it, and I need to find a distortion that will come as close as possible to the sound I get in this video starting at about 3:36: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYl0Gj3ieR8
I'm not sure which distortion Boss used to get this tone- it's something I edited a bit from a stock patch. Any suggestion that can get a guitar-like tone very similar to this (particularly that overdriven sound on sustaining notes) would be helpful- doesn't have to be Boss either. Thanks! |

It's hard to tell the difference between some of them based on Youtube clips. |

Another tone akin to what I want (similar to what's in the clip) is Adam Jones' (of Tool) guitar sound. He doesn't use any effects for that overdriven tone, but I obviously would need to. |

It's a bit harsher, but there are mods out the wazoo on the intarweb (much like the DS-1). But I have heard a DS-1 sound absolutely fantastic. There's a band out of Dublin called Terrordactyl, and their bassist has an incredible distortion tone via DS-1. |

I thought about grabbing yours but it appeared to have been sold in the Classifieds. It also sounded excellent on the Robert Keeley page- sounded like Adam Jones in a box. Only problem is no one ever demos these in the upper register on bass, which is what I'd be using it for- occassional guitar-like solos with really high gain-sounding harmonics. Did it cover that territory? |

In one of my old experimental bands, I played way up the fretboard a lot (we all changed instruments throughout, and in some songs that had 2 basses we had to compromise to prevent mud). That thing wails when you play it up high. It's got a nice bark when you slap through it, too. I don't know if it'll be able to handle your super-low-tuned strings, but it definitely excels at the higher stuff. It's also one of the better distortions for chords that I've tried. To me, it sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. |

I have it set a bit darker than your clip but it does do as bright as your clip. It comes in around 1:02 The rest of the tracks are using a light OD setting from the other half of the KOT.
Mine will be replaced very soon... I sold it because I needed the cash but it got lost in shipment so I was out the cash AND the pedal. |

Seriously though, is it just me or have shipping prices gone up lately? Things that used to cost $7 to ship now cost ~$12. |
