Who else has a fetish for envelope filters?

I just got a Maxon AF-9 in the mail today from a fellow TBer and I love it. I have an XO Q-tron + already, but I found that they're different enough to warrant keeping both. I had planned to sell the Q-tron when I got the AF-9, because I felt the volume boost was almost too difficult to contain and whenever I'd pop the strings when playing slap-style the squelch would be way too loud and obnoxious. Now I plan to use the AF-9 for slap, because it's a little more subtle but still nice and funky, and the Q-tron for more wetness whenever I need a filter for fingerstyle playing. I also discovered that the Q-tron sounds a lot better (to me) when I put my Bad Monkey in its effects loop. It rounded it out a little and retained the wetness without having so much edginess. Freaking sweet! I was about to sell the Bad Monkey too, because I had bought it hoping to use it as a cheap always on tone shaper, but found it lacking for that (gonna have to try a BDDI or VT Bass probably).

The last thing I wanted to say, but possibly the most important part of the topic, is that a bass into two envelope filters, a down driven run into an up driven, is a sound from Heaven!! Wet, funky, divine gooodness! God bless the envelope filter!!

Now I gotta get me a wah

Yeah. I am currently trying to make up my mind weather to get a Groove regulator to add to my Qtron+ since I run the qtron with a fuzz most of the time.

hi.

I want a Wah One, Bassballs, SubDecay, and Grinder.

The Octavius Squeezer is also an envelope, but It's also a bass synth.

Ya I'm interested in either a WahOne or a Dunlop Crybaby 105Q (or a Wilson Bass Wah if I could find one any suggestions there guys?) and definitely the Octavius Squeezer. But that's in a few years, after I've finished my pedalboard and upgraded my bass/amp

I don't personally get aroused by envelope filters, but whatever floats your boat.

Wilson bass Wah can be found here:
http://www.wilsoneffects.com/
Look at the store page 2.
These are actually awesome wah pedals. I have a 12-position Q Wah (pre-release of the bass 12-position). It works great with both bass and guitar.

That being said, I have too much GAS for envelope filters. The number of them that I have tried does not even scratch the surface... I need to win the lottery or something.

I use 3 regularly, with a couple others "off the board" just in case.

I'd just like to find one to use for the rare occasions I need one - like for Jamiroquai stuff.

I like them, especially in a jam session. I became fond of them after hearing them on old Dead tapes.

You think that's nice, try running them in parallel! *wet*

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does that mean and how do I do it? I'm intrigued

Split your bass signal into two lines, run each line into its own envelope filter (one up, one down) and then recombine them with a mixer.

Hmmmm sounds very interesting, I think a couple months from now I might have to try this. Does splitting my bass signal into two lines mean that I need to bi-amp my setup or do I just need a piece of equipment that does this for me? Thanks for the help!

There are a few different ways to go about it. You can run the two channels into two different amps with separate cabs (AKA bi-amping), with or without a crossover between them. Or you can just use a small active mixer and run a mono output from that into one amp.

I'm feeling a serious jones coming on.

I used to run a Dunlop Bass Wah, Bass OD, and DOD Delay. Been running no pedals for the past few years. Have a Mini-Q looking for a different envelope filter. So been looking around for a DOD FX25.

I am a bit of a filter anorak, but I don't think I can declare myself as such because I haven't owned a Musitronics Mu-Tron. I do have five filters on my board at the moment, and I've gone through lots of different filters, and if I see a filter for sale used that I've never owned before I'll probably buy it, but the fact remains I haven't ever owned a Mu-Tron, and I think that's a prerequisite for being a true filter anorak.

I'm going to ruffle a few feathers here but honestly I think the DOD filters sound like ****. The FX-25 is the best model they did, but it's still dogged with the same problems that their earlier filters had.

I would recommend you ignore DOD filters. If you've tried other filters and think a particular DOD is going to make that sound you expected other filters to make, it's not going to happen.
