I really wanna get it after seeing the demo of it! Really versatile, transparent, dynamic, tweekable, has a meter, and all in a box the same size as a Phase 90.
Can really see this been the best compressor MXR has ever done! ‪MXR Bass Compressor: Darryl‬‏ - YouTube

| | | | I'll pass. Waited as long as I could, but due to the delays I got an EBS Multicomp that works well with my GK1001rb-II and Sansamp BDDI. Besides, I'm not good at tweeking comps so the two-knob configuration does it for me.

I haven't been too impressed with many bass compressors. That sounded Perfect.
Way too many dollars for me, though, for a pedal.

| | | | I wonder if I can hold off till they pop up on the "used" market? It shouldn't take long. Bass players are really picky.

| | | If it made me sound like that guy, I'd
buy it in a second.
But, I'm tired of trying compressors.
Every time I try one, I end up not being
able to find any settings that sound as
good as the bypass setting.
I've decided that's not something for me,

| | Sometimes it's one more note than what was needed! | | | | I've been looking a comps lately and I think the Diamond BCP-1 is the way I want to go.
I have looked at the MXR and also the Demeter Compuulator and the Maxon CP9pro.
The thing I don't like about MXR products is they can have a pretty high noise floor (the between the notes noise) and I won't put up with the that.
The link you provided is a professionally shot video and I really don't trust the sound coming from it. It's been tweaked far more than the normal "guy in the bedroom" video. It sounds great but if thats really what it comes off like in the real world I'd be surprised.
Owning a studio and 45 years playing bass tells me there is more than meets the ear in the sound of that youtube video.
So, though I may purchase one of these in the future I don't expect it to compare to the other two comps I mentioned.
If you'd like to read a little about comps and get some great reviews, go here, this guy knows his stuff. Compressor Reviews

Of course I understand a compressor isn't an "effect" unless you want to use it to extremes. But the video just shows different tones and playing styles that all sound good. Without being in the room with the thing, it doesn't give me any sense of how well the pedal really does its job. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2011 Location: Santa Cruz | | | After a long time searching for a good compressor pedal I finally found what I wanted: FEA Labs Multiband Optical Comp. After gigging and recording with it for several months now I find I'm liking it even more than when I first got it (and I liked it right from the start), so I can say - with some relief - that my long, drawn out pedal search wasn't just chronic GAS. For the first time in several years I'm looking at the promo for the latest, hottest piece of comp gizmo (MXR) without thinking "Ooh, maybe THAT's the one, now if I can just scrounge up another couple a hundred $$$ then everything will fall into place".
I'm not posting this to diss the MXR or anyone wanting it. It may be exactly the ticket for many of you. More than anything, I think I'm just posting to say that, yes, sometimes a little pedal gizmo thing can make a world of difference and it may take awhile to find it (especially if you know what you really want).
It's nice to see more pedal builders finally making full featured compressors like the FEA and MXR... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
