Why did you pick your Big Muff

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd like to hear from some people about why they picked the particular version of the Big Muff pedal they have. There seem to be so many versions of this pedal around, I'm curious to know why a bass player would pick one over the other. "Because it was cheaper" or "someone gave it to me" are perfectly good answers.

Thanks.

I got the Green Sovtek Big muff because i saw a guy from a local band use one and thought it was amazing, my band later bought me one for my birthday off ebay, and now comparing it to other muffs I'd never use a different one.

With all apologies to its fans and due respect to the company, this thread title brings only a single thought to mine just because of how it was worded:

"Well, me mum always told me its not very ladylike to pick your m**f in public..."

~Taelyn, always wondered how that company got away with the name...

I've used other Muffs before but they always dropped me out of the mix.

The BMM sounded just as good and has a dry switch, which worked perfectly - muff dirt + not dropping out of the mix = win.

I got my Russian Black BM on a whim when I saw it on the 'Bay. Despite trying a bunch of others it's still my all-round fave.

What do you like about this model more than the other ones?

The Russian models seems to be very popular.
Was there a real sound difference in this one; or is it built a lot better?

BBM because it was so hyped here.

Sold it quickly because I discovered it was absolutely not at all what it was hyped to be (IMO).

Seriously. It's like svt x 2. It takes a bit of knob turning to find the right tone but it's great once you do.

The sound is just so much more aggressive then the other muffs and cuts through the band mix really well.

also i do feel that there better constructed then the others, i could spend all day throwing it down the stairs and probably still wouldn't break.

BBM because of it's bass boost and dry settings.
I still want a big green russian though.

BBM-Bought it because of the hype. Kept it for the dry setting.
NYC Big Muff-Got it free. I keep it because it's just nasty.

The only one I've tried is the big USA BM. I tried it because it was the only pedal I'd ever heard of at the time (obviously before I got into pedals). I loved how it sounded, but found that bass goes bye-bye when using it. Never tried another since. I know everyone here is all hot and sweaty over the BBM, but I honestly didn't dig any of the clips I heard of it, and the dry mode doesn't interest me at all.

However, I've been dying to try the new Tone Wicker version on g****r. The clips I've heard are really raunchy and awesome when the tone stack is bypassed. If I like it, I may build a tiny nano-sized muff clone with no tone circuit at all, and maybe some big caps and a few other little changes.

The green Sovtek Muff sounds great, but the inputs are plastic. Someone dropped mine, and both inputs broke. Now I am sending it back to the company for repairs, but it will cost me $25 plus shipping.

actually that is something that i forgot about, the only down fall i did in counter with it was that i snapped the tip of a jack off in the input and the they're fully enclosed jacks so getting the tip back out was a F***ing nightmare
