I used to use one back in my 'guitardist' days, but I never really felt I needed one playing bass. That is, until I I found myself wanting a solution to "fading" my stack-knob jazz' volume in outros. (it just wasn't proving practical to smoothly dial down 2 pots simultaneously)
Wow. I've really been finding creative uses for fades, simulated bowing and swells. It's great hitting a heavily overdriven doublestop and gently letting it roar in! This is great! The downside is, I'll probably be getting a bigger pedalboard- I'm already a little self-conscious about it's size now!
I researched, auditioned and thought it out & ended up getting the Visual Sound pedal. It really has a great buffer and can even drive two separate devices without impedance issues. The passive option sucks, however. It's pretty much only useful in passive mode as an expression pedal or if you
like having your treble sucked out.
The pedal travel is a little bit shorter than the EB's, but I like that the heel down position is at a shallower angle to the floor. For me, it feels more comfortable.
For bass, the graduated LED's aren't all
that necessary. But it's nice to see, at a glance, if your pedal is open or closed. (less chance of missing a downbeat because the pedal is off!)
Anyway, I'm counting on the TB effects forum regulars to point out the deficiencies in my setup. You let me down Tb. You let me down...
