Why a dry out?

How can I best use the 'direct out' on my effects pedals?

Any unique approaches to pedalboards with this design feature?

It allows you to send a wet (processed) signal to one amplifier and a clean signal to another.

Say I take the two outs on my Whammy, one dry one wet. I send the wet through my other effects, I send the dry to another amp. My effected tone can be EQ'd one way, my clean tone another. I could run effects with a clean amp and my dry signal with a dirty one, or vice versa. One way or the other, the clean signal helps preserve low end when using pedals that would otherwise suck it.

And having it in a pedal saves you from having to drop $30+ on an ABY splitter box. But then you don't have the option of running only one signal with a single stomp.

If you use a wah-style blender on both outs, you get instant blender goodness as well. Many applications.

I use different effects on my uPOG's dry and wet outs.

awesome! it's on my list of blenders...barge is on there too.

I don't know if I'll want a looper or buffered fx loops.

I know I'll probably have about 8 too many pedals...

A use for a dry signal on a pedalboard? Yeah, plenty.

If you use a Distortion constantly, for a Rage/Audioslave/Tool/Hard Rock/Alternative Metal tone, it's quite effective to have your dirty wet, and then a clean dry.

Or if you're me, a clean wet and dirty wet.
It just really depends on personal preference though.

Yeah, in my instance it will be a weird combination, some effects in both outs, others just in one, one amp EQ'd bright with a bit of dirt, one amp EQ'd deep and clean, and a nice overlapping EQ range.

You think kind of like me in reverse.
My distorted dirty channel is really deep, but my clean channel is kind of punchy with some bright highs. Even so, both channels are bright. I like my clean D.I.'ed, though, but I'd do it from an amplifier.
