Why the Ekko 616 sell-offs?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, I've been noticing the past few weeks at least a half dozen or more Malekko 616s on the chopping block in the classifieds...

What gives? What did you like / dislike about it?

I've always been curious and have been awaiting the 919 for a long time now.

I have a 600 Dark that I bought from some poor sucker which I love, was always curious how it compared to 616 (other than the obvious modulation diff).

Fess up.

the 600D is my ultimate delay- been gassing for that a while back. I looked for one for a long, long time and finally settled on a Disaster Transport. been wanting to try the lo-fi, but am curious as to what the 919 will be like.

Because it is an unusable delay. Please send all of yours to me for proper disposal.

Really, the 616 is an awesome analog delay. Personally I like it more than the Carbon Copy, in part because of the great modulation and the buffered/true bypass option.

I still think the original Ekkos (light and dark 300s and 600s) have a superior delay character but for the prices and form factor the 616 is incredibly hard to beat.

If I had to guess as to why you're seeing some up for sale I'd say it's partly people looking to buy the new lo-fi version, possibly people selling in anticipation of the 919 (though I don't know when it's coming out) but mostly just the natural cycle of gear. Something new and great comes out and everyone jumps on it and then later some people realize it isn't for them.

It happened with the Genz Benz Streamliner. Lots of hype and now a fair number of people selling them. I personally think it's an amazing amp and love my to bits, but it makes sense that not everyone would love it.

I recently bought lo-fi and got my second 616 in trade. now i have three Malekko delay. and I sold my Echobox because of them which I thought I'd never do. I might sell one of them to get the Brigadier but later. I actually use one of 616 just as chorus for synth bass parts. It works much better for me than any dedicated chorus pedal.

Oh wait - I think I'm seeing the light.

There's a new 616 in town...

I saw somebody mention "lo-fi" a few days ago, went to the website, didn't see it there, assumed they were the same.

.....only different, I guess.

So I was uninformed, and there's been a mix of both out there for sale.

Interested in lofi vs 600D comparisons too.

The 616 is like a form of currency. They keep their resale value. I had multiples of it and needed to buy something else, so I sold one off.

616 is great. At home it's okay, but in a band mix it rocks. Considering the price it's fookin' amazing.

600 Dark is the greatest delay pedal ever. EVER. I will never sell mine. NEVER.

616 LoFi is kinda neat, but works better for self-oscillation than regular delay usage. So I'm selling that one.
