Why I bought a RV-3

Sign in to disble this ad
Pretty much the reason I never liked Reverb on bass is because I never heard a good example. Welp, I finally heard some sweet bass reverb from ISIS. Their new album should be in your CD racks(or music folder ) since the the bass tone is amazing with the efx he uses.

Now, since I'm new to reverb- would this excerpt be just reverb or some PS-3 chorus? It's 3:15 in this link. Which reverb setting would it be? I was playing with the RV-5 today at work and I didn't like the sound of the spring setting but more of the Plate sounded nice.

I don't think I hear any PS-3 in that section, but I have no r/l experience with the pedal to know what range of sounds it can make.

There is definite reverb and delay going on though.

You are going to be stoked with that RV-3.

When they played this live, I believe he had both of his RV-3's (with different settings, of course) on for that passage.

it's weird it just sounds exactly like the reverb i used to get out of my ME-20B when i used one, i think its both the reverb and the ps-3

hte me-20b doesn't let you choose the chorus type though :S

I'd say either a hall reverb and ps-3

or.....i forget which model reverb jeff uses, i know he uses two but if one is an RV-5 it could be the modulate reverb setting?

It may be apparant by now i am talking out of my a**

Woot! ISIS and neked chicks!

I just got into ISIS about a month or so ago. I was actually wondering what kind of effets they use.

Yeah, it sounds like the RV-3's reverb+delay mode. It doesn't sound like there's any PS-3 chorus in there, but the reverb adds such an ambient texture that it would obscure anything else being run with it. In fact, Vegas might be right about both of Caxide's RV-3's being used for it, since the reverb is really thick there. Probably reverb+delay on one, and then a reverb mode on the other.

Wavering Radiant is such an awesome album.

I've been eyeing RV-3 and PS-3 pedals on and off over the past few months... but I think I have a different plan for the madness on my yet-unrevealed new board.

He has 2 RV-3's: one set for Reverb (mode 11) and one set for Reverb + Delay (mode 7). I saw them in a really small club and got a GREAT view of the pedalboard but sadly, no camera.

Don't worry - I aim to rectify the photo dilemma in a little over three weeks.

Speaking of the RV-3... both of Isis' guitarists seem to love them, too. I remember watching an interview with them that showed their boards, and I instantly noticed those.

I hope you get as clear a shot as I could have. Oldironsights came down from Las Vegas for the show(!) at The Casbah in San Diego and both of us were hating the fact that we had no cameras...the room holds a max of like 150 or so.

I don't care for the music, but I watched the whole video (well, skipped through the whole thing to the good parts anyway) just to see the boobies. Sweet.

Holds 200 people, the Blank Club does. Intimate, it is. Yes.

Will do. To say the least, I really like the reverse delay on this one, as well as the various delay subdivisions.

I'll be seeing ISIS right around the same time and will at least get some phone pics, unless the club is cool and lets my camera in.

I must admit though... I'm not as huge a fan of the "Wavering Radiant" as it seems most are. I think that it is a little heavy handed and stifling of ISIS typical fluidity and ambiance.

YMMV.

I'm getting an RV-3 too as soon as I send the payment out for it.

And I'm going to see Isis tonight in DC!

I'm excited to use the PS-3 and RV-3 together, I dont try to cop Jeff's tone exactly, but I really like his use of effects.

Wavering Radiant is my favorite of their albums.

i'm thinking about getting a boss re20 space echo pedal to get this kind of effect, instead of the RV3. what is it that makes the RV3 so much better than the RV5? just the fact that it has delay?

I have the RE-20.

It's pretty good if you are after delay+reverb.
But IMO the RV3 is better if you want straight up reverb AND delay.

What bothers me on the RE-20 is that is mainly reverb pedal...
it seems like it's modelled after the RE 201... in a reverb situation. I miss the straight up Space Echo tape delay emulation in it.
I don't like/need reverb... so the RE-20 is not my favourite. Although I found one setting that is real intense and I really like, but that setting is not worth the footprint to me.

(I prefer clean normal digital delay, so I'm getting a DD-7 or DD-20. I also seem to be collecting delay pedals.)

It has one straight up reverb mode, 4 echo mode... and #? (more than 4) echo + reverb modes.

IMO and IMO, the Line 6 DL-4 does better modelling of the Space Echo. Less reverby.

I own both, I should A/B them sometime.

DL-4 is harder to tweak, but I like it's sounds.
