Hello!
This is the first topic I start here. I need some advice.
I want a Fuzz, I'm starting to learn about effects (bought a Zoom B2) and now I'm crazy about Fuzz effects.
I'm about getting a Fuzz (clone):
-Wolly Mammoth
-Fuzz Industry, I mean, Factory
-Big Muff (Russian version)
Well, things we should consider:
-They are all almost the same price.
-I don't want fuzz in excess.
-I play a 5-string, then it should sounds good in low-tones.
-I'm using EMG's.
-My set is only Zoom B2 with external Expression Pedal + Onerr Wah Wah.
I know the right thing is test, but it's impossible to me, then I would like to see your opinions/advices and maybe some coparisions/demos.
Sorry for the bad english.

shop around as much as you can and listen to as many sound samples as you can (and try and test drive everything you consider buying.)
id reccomend looking at electronix pedals..ive been using the fuzz and loving it. theyre like $100 on ebay, and they sound great.
theres also a whole page of fuzz soundclips on the wiki here at TB. good luck picking one.. |

If so, I can't tell you for sure with the Fuzz Factory, but the Wooly Mammoth does not work well at all with active basses, which likely means your EMG equipped bass would be a bad match.
Plus, if you don't want fuzz in excess, these are the wrong pedals for you. Both are extreme. The Wooly Mammoth has a very unique, industrial sound.
The Big Muff is a much creamier, vintage style fuzz and can be tamed a good deal more and it has always seemed to work well with my active basses. It is a mid-scooped pedal though, so it can get lost in the mix. I haven't played it, but the new Bass Big Muff is worth looking into.
Another cheap alternative is the Guyatone TZ-2. It is very different from the Muff. It is very cutting and aggressive.
The Electronix pedals are very good too (MessDrive and MessDrive Hybrid+) and also work well with active basses.
Hope that helps. |

Also, the Russian EHX Big Muff is about the same price as the Wooly Mammoth? At least I know that that's not how it is at all here in the states. The Russian Muff here is like what, one sixth the price? If someone is trying to charge you as much for a Russian Muff as they'd charge for a Wooly Mammoth, I'd think you might get a better deal if you could get one from the states shipped internationally. Just something to look into. |

Just something to look into. | They are all clones, and all of them are cheap. Other players say that the sound is very very close to the original ones. All of them are about US$80, but again, they are not the original ones.
I would buy pedals from states, but I don't have paypal, neither internation credit card...
@Topic: I think I want creamy, I want something that will work with my active EMG pickups. The in this list should I consider only the Big Muff clone? And should look for another ones? |

Look for something else. |

Muffs tend to be pretty versatile and there are a LOT of fizzes out there which are muff based. |

That's right, no more fuzz for me, there - I said it. |
