Wierd BSW problem

Sign in to disble this ad
This happened twice over the last week of gigs. My Digitech BSW has begun to make funny sounds, but not through my amp. I don't have an elaborate setup ( currently, Peavey Foundation to the BSW to a Hartke LH500 driving an Avatar sb112) so limiting the problem should be easy. When I engage the BSW (setting 7 all controls at about 12:00) the PA system feeds back. I am not in the PA except through mike leakage. On one of the gigs, the PA fed back then shut down everything when it blew the power. This has happened with 2 different bands and PA rigs. As I don't have a full PA to play with, its hard to test under live conditions. I am baffled.

Is there an audible squeel or other upper octave noise when you use this mode on your amp only?

When I play its a little squealier than normal: the squeal triggers the feedback like all the mikes are in front of a speaker. Have to check out the other modes to see if its a chip problem. Odd that it effects the PA but not my amp.

Some of the settings seem to jump through the filter, not sweeplike at all. Maybe a little more high end content in the sound, maybe a little more narrow Q sounding. Maybe I'm being picky about the tonal differences: it certainly was not my live rig. I'll go blow out 2 more PA systems this weekend. I'll pay more attention and try to sneak in a soundcheck.

If other settings don't work for you, then it's time for another octaver. I can't tell whether or not this is a systematic problem with the BSWs or if it's a wear-'n'-tear/quality control thing. If you'd record a clip, I can tell you whether or not we've had the same issue, but I don't know what good it'll do you.

If he does a clip, don't play it back near your PA.
