Will a MXR m-80 drive a power amp?

Hi guys/gals.

The title says it all. I know some DI/pre-amps seem to have trouble driving certain power amps. Does the MXR m-80 have enough output?

You mean w the 1/4" jack? Or does it have some sort of line out? I don't know the answer. Why not... Might be noisy through the 1/4" but not sure..... Bump

I posted the same question a while back. Depends greatly on the power amp I think......I would use it in a pinch but ended up giving up on the idea just using a typical amp/cab rig. It is possible though. BTW I still use the M80 today......it is "my tone"....been through other preamps (VT, Bass Driver Deluxe etc) and I end up going back to this M80.....love a small amout of distortion blended in the clean....sounds great.

MXR M80 as a preamp

No. Not enough juice even for a .775v power amp very well.

Using a hot mic preamp in between can make it work though.

It could, but it wouldn't be ideal. A better solution would be to pick up an ART Tube MP to boost the signal after the M80, they're around $35 I think, and small enough to fit on some pedalboards.

The ART didn't really pan out that well when I tried it (linked topic above). I would recommend saving your $35 and avoiding it all together.
