Even when blended with the clean signal using the blend knob, will this happen?

I didn't notice any drag on the mids when I used mine...

Not if you cut bass and treble on the pedal. That's what I do and it really grinds.

Backing off bass and treble gets you a slight boost in 700Khz.

Where do you guys put the bddi in your effects chain if you're not using the DI function? in the front or back of your board?

I'd put dirt, octave and filters before a Sansamp, but modulation and delay after it.

This thread had a load of frequency response graphs of the BDDI, but they're not showing up anymore - still worth a read though:

It all depends on how you set it up. Using the blend and keeping the bass and treble at or below 12 o'clock, you'll be fine.

Hi

soz to bring up an old thread but searched and found this so thought id revive it rather than starting a new one.

I have recently bought a BDDI and was wondering - is 12 o'clock for bass and treble actually make a flat eq like sanasamp suggest in the manual? As it sounds a bit boosted when i have them there?

Also i dont know if its just me, but does it generate a bit of compression as well? Cause to my ears it makes the sound a bit punchier and tighter like you would expect from mild compression.

Many thanks for any replies

There's a great thread here somewhere with some freq analyses of various settings. With B & T set to 12 o'clock, there is a fair cut around 700 Hz. The only way to reduce that is to roll the bass and treble back a far bit, but you will reduce the total amount of gain available if you do.

I've since switched to the ParaDriver DI, which is a lot more versatile and doubles as a great distortion pedal too (crank the mids around 400 Hz and it'll tear your face off!).

I use mine as an EQ and when recording to get a bi amp sound (I have the BDDI first, run the DI to my recording box and then run another wire from the amp to my box). I tried the sansamp after dirt, but prefer it before hand, I like having the dirt shape the sansamp, not the other way around, but thats all personal preference, put it in both places and see which sounds better.

Ah right that sounds good, so where does the treble and bass need to be to get a flat eq? Would it be 11/10/9 o'clock?

I know what you mean about the lack of gain when the eq is down, what about the compression? I notice the manual says that you wont normally need a seperate compressor for it???

i used it for quite a while.

it sounds really nice, but you'll have no mids at any of the usable settings.

you could cut the bass and treble to get it balanced, but IMO that'll end up sounding worse than just scooped mids.

yes, there is some compression happening in the Sansamp magic. will you need a separate compressor unit? that's your call...

initially, i used a separate compressor w/ my Sansamp RBI. later i got rid of it because my ears sort of "grew" to discern that the compressor wasn't tonally giving me anything i wasn't already getting from the Sansamp.

as for the two band eq on the BDDI, i think you can get plenty of mids. it is just really easy to over-scoop your tone. if only adjusting the eq, a scooped tone may sound more powerful than a tone with nice mids. one should spend some time learning the interactivity of the eq, drive, presence, and blend controls...
