Wilson Effects 12 Position Bass Q Wah SOUNDCLIPS

Sign in to disble this ad
You can find various soundclips of this pedal by me in other threads already, but I promised to make a thread for soundclips of this pedal so here it is, this should be easier to find with a search for future references.

First is just the wah. The distortion is coming from the wah pushing my amp; I do get some good breakup from the wah hitting the front end of my amp. Check it out:

http://media.putfile.com/WilsonWah1

Second is with the Box of Rock kicked on after the wah for some Wah -> Distortion sound:

http://media.putfile.com/WilsonWah2

And lastly I did a soundclip of the sound I described in another thread about noise with the sweep on sustained notes:

http://media.putfile.com/WilsonWah3

I'll see if I can get Kevin Wilson to take a listen for me because I'm sure he'll know better what it is I'm doing wrong than I would.

But that aside I think this thing sounds pretty cool. If there's anything else you'd like to hear done with the pedal let me know and I can see if I can find the time to try to do some more soundclips for you. And please let me know how you all think this thing sounds!

Clips sound great, you really get some serious breakup with just the wah. Is it hard to get a clean wah tone?

It is for me, but of course I don't play high headroom amps. The sound will clean up if I turn the gain down on my amp a lot, but I like to crank things. That's why I play these little amps.

Thanks! Might just be a dusty pot, I don't know.

mark, Try hitting the pot with a shot of WD-40 that's exactly what that sounds like when the pot gets some dust in it. Simply open the bottom of the pedal and push the dust cover back that is on the back of the pot and shoot a little WD-40 in the opening. that should clear up that scratchy noise. Shoot me an email if for some reason it doesn't. Thanks

Kevin

Just wanted update this, I gave the pot a squirt of WD-40 and that seemed to sort things right out. Kudos to Kevin Wilson for making my new favorite wah pedal!

In future you're better off with a purpose designed electrical contact cleaner. WD-40 is fairly brutish stuff - us electronics techs wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. The bees knees is Deoxit DN5 but there are other products which are a bit cheaper that are still miles better than WD-40.

It does sound like a dusty pot, but this is a brand new wah is it not? I have to say that doesn't bode well.

I actually knew that but thought I'd do as told. I do have some contact cleaner around as well... Thanks, though!

The pot does have a plastic cover to protect it, which I figure ought to help in the future, but we'll see how she holds up. As for now I'm leaving the Wilson Wah on my board and I'll keep this thread updated, especially if I can get some clips from a live band situation.

Actually I either use Wd or tuner cleaner/ lube both seem to work well. Sometimes dust can get into the pot during shipping. It happens occaisionally.

Well fair enough I suppose, it is useful stuff. But to me WD-40 is something that was designed for one purpose, and just happens to have some other useful properties. The less useful properties - like the fact that it stinks, ruins some plastics and is flammable - are the ones that turn me away from using it in electronics.

Whereas a contact cleaner such as Deoxit is specifically designed for cleaning electrical contacts and it's non-flammable which, although not so important in an effect pedal, is quite handy if you ever use it in a switch that handles more power.

I can whack a nail in with a pair of pliers, but...
