I'm thinking about getting a wireless setup. What do you guys have to say about them? Which ones are good? Which ones are a good value? Is it worth it at all? A friend of mine has one and told me the only thing he doesn't like about it is the battery. He said the batteries die really fast and it's just a pain to keep replacing them.
Pros / cons.
Go.

If you want to be able to listen to the FOH mix, you need to be wireless. Want to jump around the stage with your bandmates without tripping over twisted cables? Go wireless.

About the only thing I have to say is to either prepare to invest on the upper end of the equipment range or be prepared to have interruptions in Your set because the signal is not getting through. For one reason or another.
I once dreamed about wireless setup, but for my kind of music and my kind of playing style it's totally un-necessary to have one. It'd make mixing the band a whole lot easier for the double duty bassist though.

if you play big stages and dont want to be limited near your amp or small stages where the floor is covered in cables it 'may' be needed..my opinion.
+ if you get a cheap(er) one you could get interference from other sources and the good ones are a pretty big investment (depending on your capital)

Get the upgraded 'pro' cable that runs from the guitar to the transmitter. The stock cable is crap.

I don't use it as much because my current band doesn't move as much as my last band did (our singer used to constantly trip over my cables and pedals and it drove me nuts). A wireless unit is a good investment, as are at least 4 rechargeable AA's, and I highly recommend the Shure. It doesn't guzzle batteries as badly as some, I get around 20 hours use out of each set of rechargeables from full recharge until the unit refuses to transmit due to low battery strength.
They're an extra thing to carry, an extra thing to worry about and extra thing to break... but if you think it will help you out then it's definitely worth it. |

This was on the upper end of those sold a GC at the time. Yes it sucks a 9V dry after 2 shows with typical 45 minute sets. We played Rock / nuMetal and I moved around a TON, sometime I was in the crowd. We played both small and large stages. The wireless allows absolute freedom on stage. I wire tied the sending unit to my bass guitar strap so I could easily swap guitars and keep my comfy strap. You should invest in a nice unit and not go cheap. I did only have 1 issue with it I have had to change the special cable adapter a few time. These are about 10.00/ea so its not a big deal, just an incomvinience when in the middle of my set I would get static.
I dont play as much now and traded my wireless and my xbox for a SVT810 cab. And now that Im back to to cable only I'm digging it. The cable makes me feel dirty... and I like it...

| | Registered User | | | | | I've been gigging an X2(now called Line6) XDR-95 for over 2 years, and have nothing but good things to say about it... I've also checked out a friend's G50 - and it looks like a winner, too... I would recommend taking a hard look at one of those, or the XDS-PLUS... Once you get used to using a decent wireless, you won't want to cable yourself again - I know I won't be, unless it's in a band I stay planted in...
Sure, my XDR-95 goes thru a 9v after about 5 hours of playing, but I look at that as a cost of doing business - for my gigs, it's money well spent... I'll *probably* invest in a couple of quality rechargeables in the future, but for the moment, it costs me around $2 per gig to never trip on a cable, nor get tangled up, and also to be able to check out the FOH sound - all important things for me... Also, my XDR-95 sounds as good - or better - than any cable you'll ever plug into... I've never had a dropout of ANY kind - it's been 100% reliable, except replacing the original cable once, and Line6 sent me out a new replacement, free of charge...

I've been playing through a Shure TD guitarist and get 3+ gigs out of a nine volt approximately 14 hours. Going wireless means no more shocks from the microphone. Also it can be great for soundchecks.
