WMD SuperFatman! AWESOME!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Something many of us have been waiting for...

An envelope filter with LP/BP/HP, a built in LFO (triangle/square) and the option to use external CV-Sources or an expression pedal.
Plus the built in LFO/ext. source filter sweeps are blendable.

MadApe got them for $280 and I think it's ok for all the stuff the pedal features...could be a MOOG LPF killer.

I get one as soon as I have the cash...

Wow! That looks great. Alot of features and I'm guessing/hoping there's alot of usable tones in there. It may well be the filter I get if I can find the money...

Slightly bummed that my Photron is in progress. I could have gone with this and the Moog Phaser.

Wow is right! New pedals like the EP-2 and Brain Freeze might be in trouble? I'm assuming it uses some kind of charge pump to get this down to 9v, brilliant work by WMD.

The one downside is that it doesn't have an envelope trigger input. I had Mario replace the Photron's effects loop with a key in trigger but man this looks so awesome. I cannot justify it now but I definitely would have bought it a week and a half ago.

Wow... I think I'm in. I've been putting off my envelope purchase until something like this came along... and $280 is a great price for what you get... I just paid $299 for a EBS bass wah.

The SuperFatman looks great- Moog LPF Killer? Not in my opinion. Compliment to a Moog LPF or MS-20 clone? Definitely. The Fatman has its own character and does not sound much, if at all, like the Moog or Photron, and therefor makes a great pairing with one of the other two for different types of filter tones.

That seems like a lot of filter for the money too; I definitely think an upgrade is in order for my Fatman, but Im not really hyped up on the new model; Now that they have a Fatman with a cv input, I need to contact them and see about modding my pedal to replace the 'trigger in' with a cv input.. My MP201 and a CV input would make most of the LFO controls on the SuperFatman redundant (for all practical purposes anyway)

How would you describe the difference? Tell me it sucks. I'm going to try really hard not to buy one.

just got it in... man, this is one crazy filter. Works GREAT with actives. Tons of sounds. The lfo is freaky, and has opened a whole new world for me. More info later. Gigging with it sunday. I have to say, I read that this isn't a very funky filter. BUT It gets the sound I like for my funk. Thick and mean. Not your normal sounding filter.

Good to hear you're diggin' it. I like my regular Fatman a lot, it has a nice character. I like the envelope a lot, and also using it with the downward toggle, and the envelope stuck mostly open and fed-back, so that there's no obvious movment of the filter, just a nice coloration that adds a sweet sort of chewy texture to an otherwise harsh sawtooth (for instance) wave from the freqbox.

How big is it? Same size as a Prometheus/Prunes&Custard/original Fatman etc? If its the same size, I'm just going to upgrade my Fatman as soon as I find a used SuperFatman (im sure someone will flip it quick due to the unique character.. or needing cash ).. and if its larger... well then maybe the Grinder has seen its last days as well. (Hopefully its the same size.. room for everyone!)

I'd love to hear clips if you have the time and means!

it is the same size as the prometheus. a little tightly spaced but I dig. The knobs and switch are tight so no worries on accidental turns!

I agree it is a different sound. Perfect for me. I tend to not care for the meatball (clones) type of sound.

Yeah, as soon as I get my firepod back I will make clips.
