Wondering what envelope filter to get I'm considering the mxr envelope filter, the soundblox pro bass Envelope filter, the q-tron and the Aguilar filter twin. Just want any thoughts on any of these pedals or if you've had a good experience with an envelope filter than I didn't mention I'm good with suggestions to. |
I own the BEF Pro. It is the only filter pedal I have ever tried. Here are some positives and negatives of the BEF Pro: Positive: TONS of options. Everything is adjustable, programmable, and affect able with an expression source. The LFO is top notch with multiple waveforms and also plays with an expression source. The graphic EQ and back page menu are also very nice for maximizing the impact of the filter and tweaking the sound. The 6 presets allow you to save a ton of great sounds. Negatives: Size. The pedal is tall and wide. You can't have that many options without adding real estate. It also doesn't do static filter sweeps. The multiple options may be daunting if you want to plug and play. This pedal takes some time and understanding to get exactly what you want out of it. It is a bit like a compressor in that regard. |

All Source Audio products are digital. |
It's super digital, in the best way possible. I remember seeing a YouTube tour of the SA facility and on their front door was a sign that basically said "no analogue beyond this point" or something to that effect. As an owner of the BEF pro I really strongly recommend it. The only thing I find it lacks are really deep low pass type tones. I'm considering an iron ether xerograph deluxe or a moog to cover that sound soon. |
I use an MXR Bass Envelope Filter (band pass) coupled with some dirt/fuzz and an octaver for synthy tones but get yourself a 3Leaf Audio GR2 for those funky, bubbling, quacky low pass tones. Trust me, you'll never look back. |

I would suggest also checking out the 3Leaf Proton. I think filters are pretty personal, they respond to your playing, your unique attack and damping. I have a SA BEF and a QTron+ and they are both very capable filters. Right now I run the Proton and the BEF on my board. |
Check this out: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f36/en...amples-967550/ Read the first post and listen to the sound clips. See which one you like the sound of better. Then read down further (or contact me) to find out which is which. This will at least give you a good idea on what they sound like. |
