Yet another signal chain question (Moog content)

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, so my Freqbox is arriving today, and I am finally ready to set up my pedalboard. I have the Lowpass filter and the Phaser as well, and I was wondering what would be the best way to chain it together.

I want to use a Y cable to run the Lowpass Filter and the Freqbox parallel to each other, then somehow recombine them and run it into the Phaser. What would be the most cost effective way to do this? Preferrably something I wouldn't have to order and wait another week for.

The other question I had was if I should run the Foogers in the fx loop of my RBI, or have them before the preamp.

Thanks,
Ely

Sorry, that requires an active mixing device; you could build your own if you are electronically inclined, or you could buy a Boss LS-2 or a small Rolls or ART mixer at a local guitar shop. Otherwise you'll need to order something in.

I'd run the pedals in front of the amp because that's what they were designed for, but it can't hurt to try them in the loop and see how it sounds.

The best way to chain them together? They're Moogerfoogers - you have quite a few options for chaining them together. Most, of course, are beyond normal.

Spend a little time experimenting. If it were me, I might do FreqBox => LPF => Phaser or LPF=> FreqBox => Phaser.

For running effects in parallel, the easiest way to mix them back together would be with blend loop pedals like the Boss LS-2 or the Radial BigShot MIX, or you could use a small mixer (the Rolls Mini Mixer is an inexpensive option). All three should be available in guitar shops, but you'll most likely find the LS-2 before you see the other two.

Two less common options would be the "boutique" blend loop pedals that you'd rarely see in a shop, but could easily order online: the Xotic Effects X-Blender, and the Barge Concepts VB-Jr.

Well fortunately a used guitar store nearby has an LS-2 which I could just trade a couple crappy pedals for. I'll take some pics of my pedalboard when I'm done and let you all know how it turns out. Also coming soon, a review of the Freqbox!

Yeah, let us know how that all turns out. I had a Bass MuRF for a while, but wound up getting rid of it. I kinda miss it now. You know, Moog makes a special board just for their Moogerfoogers, I think it fits 3, maybe 4. Just fyi.

Yeah, I plan on getting the rackmount kit once I find a shallow enough rack case for it.

For the most part. I have an EBS Multicomp and just got a Boss LS-2. I also have a BYOC Pickled Beaver kit that I never quite got around to finishing.

You should set the envelope out from the LPF to control... I dunno, something on the Freqbox.

The Pop-Up Mixer case from SKB is shallow enough (about 5") and the effects can sit flat or at any number of angles. I am planning on doing this with my MF 101,102, and 105B soon.

Why would you run the 107 and 101 in parallel? It normally makes more sense to have a "synth-Like" signal chain of 107 (oscillator) into the 101 (filter) and then into signal modifiers (phaser, etc..).

The other advantage of the rackmount setup is to have all of the jacks plugged into a patchbay, so that they can modify one another, and you can change the order of the signal chain very easily as well.

Just my opinion...........

Yes, that is exactly what I was talking about. The patchbay is a good idea, I was just going to have tons of cables all over the place and switch them around a lot.

But anyways, Freqbox produces a ton of highs. With the frequency set low it doesn't make much sound at all. So running into the Lowpass Filter kinda kills the dynamics of it.

I just gave in to GAS and bought the MF-104Z Delay on a payment plan. Only two more Moogerfoogers left to go!

Jeez.. Well, you might as well get their new control unit too.

Oh, you have a KP3, yes? You know that you can do almost everything the Moogs can do by being creative with 'pad motion' (except for envelopes and FreqBox). Another plus to getting the Moog control unit -- midi control for your pad.

Yeah, I haven't done much experimentation using my bass through the Kaoss Pad, I mostly plan on using it for a fancy drum machine.

I didn't know that about the Control Processor thingy being MIDI-capable. I planned on getting it, and the Multi-expression pedal, after I got the last two Foogers and a rack to put them in.
