Ok, so I know this kind of thread comes up here roughly every 2 days, but I've searched google, wikipedia, and talkbass with no results
What i want to know, is how did the bassist get such an awesome distortion in this song? (you can get a really good listen of the tone at about 0:36)
I've watched a live video of this song, but I couldn't see the bassist's pedalboard, all I learned was that he plays a Precision bass with a pick....
Any help is extremely welcome
Thanks guys!

from the website: Through the years, Chris has developed his distorted tone to the point where he’s earned the praise of platinum-selling rock producers like Bob Rock. “My distorted sound is one of my trademarks,” he says. “I actually use many different distorted tones, which come from changing my right-hand technique. Also, I use different blends of clean and dirty channels. I’m always listening for fresh tones from bass players, but I feel I’ve found the sound that works for me.”
apparently its the Sansamp Classic (which is discontinued now i think) that provides alot of his distortion, so i guess i was quite close when i suggested my VTBass.
hope this helps

Try going to your local music store and trying some pedal/amp mixtures

Level - 11:00
High - 11:00
Low - 1:00
Drive - 11:00
Mic - Center
Mod - Hi Gain
Amp - California
Just an FYI.
