Your favorite effects to combine

Sign in to disble this ad
Today I dusted off my DOD FX75C and it sounds great with my Assmaster and 442 red. Sounds really synthy and massive!

So what are your favorite effects to combine?

Yeah, I like this a lot. Especially with a fretless.

I'm also a big fan of filter into phaser, which is a big part of why I liked the Pigtronix EP-1 so much.

Filter into tremolo is good with the right filter. It has to have a smooth/long envelope and then it sounds pretty cool.

A couple more esoteric combos:

LFO Mod Box into Low Pass Filter

Sample & Hold followed by a delay. Or fuzz into S&H filter.

Synth (BMS or Squeezer in my case) into chorus is cool.

Today I was playing with my Heliotrope into a reverb which was interesting.

HM-2 -> Badder Monkey -> VT Bass: I use the VT for clean sounds, kick in the Monkey for grit, and the HM-2 for full-on distortion. I don't like the HM-2 by itself and was thinking of selling it until I used it before the Monkey in this setup and loved the result.

Wooly Mammoth (clone anyway) -> VT Bass = Muse! The VT really beefs up the low end and tames the fizziness of the Mammoth which sounds a bit weak through my Markbass combo by itself. Now I can't stop playing Time Is Running Out and Hysteria whilst grinning like an idiot!

Supercollider -> Tonefactor 442 filter = squelchy drum'n'bass tonez! Chorus or delay also works well afterwards.

Supercollider/Mammoth -> OC-2 = general consensus says to put octave before fuzz, but then the effect gets lost in the fuzz. The OC-2 generates a clean octave down tone from the incoming fuzz tone and tracks pretty well - it makes it sound like a clean/dirty blend!

Well......I was noodling around and learning Failure and Alice In Chains songs while my son was napping yesterday and discovered I could get Edwards' (even though Andews plays the bass on this live) tone on Heliotropic with my Triangle muff replica and the BMS. Holy moley...best thing ever to happen to bass. haha

Fuzz -> Wah...
(the only thing i like my 105Q for anymore... i've grown to hate it)

sounds... very odd, in a good way.

used it when recording, and the producer thought it sounded "Locust-y"
which i VERY much liked.

Delay into Tremolo!

This is a new discovery for me, as I've always put my delay at the very end of my signal path, but for now on Delay will be 2nd to last.

I was noodling around with some rhythmic delay stuff and then kicked on a slow-subtle triangle wave trem and it added so much dimension!

I use the Empress tap trem so no matter what setting your delay is at, the trem's rate can take over as the dominant time based effect, and the tap allows for live practicality.

Tremolo combo #2

whammy (2 octave up) into Fuzz into square wave tremolo- turn-table craziness.
