Your Favorite Fuzztones

Sign in to disble this ad
Yes, a slight variation on "what's your favorite fuzzbox."

But the more I've been posting in here, the more curious I've become to figure out what a lot of the regular fuzz guys here would use as their "holy grail" of recorded fuzzy/distorted goodness.

As far as I'm concerned, Al Cisneros's work in OM has what I'd consider the best distortion/fuzz ever recorded. It sounds like a melting rig (which, I suppose it is), and I love it.

I think he is asking about recorded fuzz tones, not individual pedals.

Awesome band from Richmond, VA.

I'd also have to say some of Fu Manchu's stuff. And Acid King. Also, Godstomper has a pretty gnarly fuzz tone. He uses the Green Russian Muff.

to me cliff burton's solo on pulling teeth,... sure the wah influences that tone but I love it cos its fuzzy yet still sounds like it has the fundamental in it alot as opposed to fuzz where it just changes the whole character/tone of the bass...

My favorite will always be Luke Gower from cog, he get's the most amazing fuzz tone out of his rig (old old sovtek muff, we think it's the green one but that's yet to be confirmed due to re-housing)

but yeah Luke Gower, i suppose to make a comparison think similar to Chris Wolstenholmes muse tone.....but it really has it's own unique flavor and he combines it incredibly well with delay in My Enemy

Bunny Brunnel's intro solo on Ivanhoe is my favorite fuzz/distorted recorded bass sound.

Also really like the bass sound on Tahitian Moon by Porno for Pyros(sorry, don't know who the player is) and just about anything Doug Pinnick does on the early King's X stuff.

Peace

I'm totally digging the tight fuzz of Mastodon

BUT

You may think it's more of a distortion tone - but it sounds fuzzy to me and AWESOME!

Iv'e seen them live

Felix Pappalardi's Sunn tone in Mountain. Specifically the live at the Fillmore one.

Al Cisneros's tone specifically on the last two and a half minutes of At Giza, Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead, and on Sleep's Sonic Titan.

Troy Sanders tone in Blood and Thunder.

Jesse Keeler in Death From Above 1979

Jeff Matz tone in Death is this Communion

Tim Bagshaw's tone on Mind Transferral

A certain goob in Buzzardstien

Ron's tone at 2.45 of Reefer Sutherland

Takeshi of Boris

Guy Pinhas playing on III.

And yes I realize that a couple of these are amp distortion tones. They still sound the best.

Greg Jehenian from mewithoutYou on "Catch for Us the Foxes"

A lot of the time you have a blend of clean and fuzzed. but it always sounds so good. Never too synthy.

The tone on 'Through Silver in Blood' is one of my personal favourites, along with John Wettons sound on 'Red'.

Add another one for Robert Sledge. Blended Big Muff FTW.

Also

Colin Greenwood on the live version of National Anthem

There are a bunch more that aren't coming to mind right now.
