So, I figured out that I have some extra cash from my job..and I decided that I'd probably look into a Moogerfooger this summer. I'm the kind of guy who likes to research what he buys for an inexplicably long amount of time before he buys it, for the sake of not wasting money. But..i've been stuck between the LPF and the 12-stage Phaser as my first moogerfooger. Any suggestions on which? Or should i branch down a completely new path.

I mostly play funk rock on my own..and a sort of indie-rock mix (We're not really sure how to put it) with my band..but I really want a pedal I can use both practically for a mellow sound, and in some songs to give it just a completely different sound. (and then maybe just something I can also experiment with to make new sounds on my own with for kicks...although I may be asking for too much in one pedal)

maybe you need an effects processor to see which effects are available and then buy some good stompboxes... just my 2 cents

Not a bad way to start and definitely the least expensive route. I started with the Digitech BP-50 Modeling Bass Processor. Has a ton, and I mean a ton of incredible examples of some of the best Amps and Stomp boxes, plus a tuner and drum machine all built in. All for less than a $80.00 (cost of one used SB). I then started buying the stomps I wanted.

Check out Wiki effect database as well.

if youve used a phaser before and like their general sound, then i suggest the 12 stage over the lpf. i have the ring mod, and its nuts. great products, although crappy power supply/wall warts and really noisy bypass.
