Zoom B2.1u vs Digitech BP8

Sign in to disble this ad
So I need a new multi effects pedal and have been reading and both the BP8 and the B2.1u seem to be getting great reviews. The Zoom B2 seems to be more expensive and doesnt have as clean of a tone as the BP8 with the tube amp. So I'm just wondering, which of these would you recommend? I will be playing at church and playing metal (haha I know..) so I'd like it to be able to both clean and distorted well. Thanks

well, i would say if u can ge ahold of a bp8 take it and run, since they have been out of production for a while, not sure as to exactly how long, but i think they were made originally around 1998 or so.[someone please correct me if i am wrong]

if ur going to buy new im afraid you would have to get the zoom, from ur choices listed anyways, but i would suggest looking into some of digitech's newer lines of bass multieffects.

I have both but they are such differnt animals i really could not place one over the other. The Zoom is more up to date as far as the selection of sounds, allows you to blend clean with distorted signal, easier to interface with a DI out and much smaller. The BP8 offers a lot of control and has a much nicer compressor/real tube pre/eq/reverb/delay (and the main reason i keep mine WHAMMY) with a lot more possibility and control.
The BP8 is the dinosaur daddy of todays multi effects but that is not necessarily a bad thing in my way of thinking.
If you can actually get a BP8 start there if it ain't your thing you should be able to sell it off and keep looking.

I have a Zoom B2.1u. For me it's perfect! For a better analysis, check my recordings.

For recording, I used the Zoom multieffect via USB direct to my notebook. The software is the CUBASE (come with the product).

Basses used:
Squier Jazz Bass V Deluxe Edition
Condor BC-600 Fretless.

Songs recorded:

Space Truckin' do Deep Puple (pick- Squier passiv)
Ink Illusion do Alain Caron (Fingerstyle - Condor Fretless)
Power do Marcus Miller (Slap - Squier active)
