Zoom B2 owners: power supply question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a B2 used. It did not come with the power supply, however. I noticed that the unit is rated for 9v DC, 300ma, negative contact in the center of the barrel connection. I have a Boss PSA power supply and an H-Pro power supply that meet these specs. However neither of these power supplies turn the unit on. Batteries turn it on, though. Any input or ideas? Is the Zoom power supply really different from the standard power supplies that we usually use for single stomp boxes?

it's digital so it draws quite a lot of current 300ma as compared to 15ma on analog pedals, are your power supplies that you used able to supply 300ma?

The H-Pro (Digitech) power supply is 300ma, the Boss is 200ma.

I've also noticed that this unit displays "bt" (low battery), even with new batteries installed. I think this think has real issues.

When I used the stock B2 power supply, it always got very warm when in use. The stock power supply was 300ma exactly, so to warm it up the B2 must have been using pretty much all of the power it could give all the time.

I run mine daisy chained from a Diago Powerstation (3,000ma) which also powers normal stomp boxes and has no issues powering the Zoom.

Your H-Pro should manage it fine at 300ma. Could it be possible that it's actually outputting slightly less than 300ma though? I've no idea if that sort of thing can happen, but if the Zoom demands pretty much exactly 300 (as evidenced by my stock supply warming up) then feeding it slightly less might be too little for it to start up with? I'm not really sure I'm afraid.

Also, a quick google shows a H-Pro as outputting 9.6v as opposed to the 9v that the Zoom uses (and that your batteries will be providing as well). Might this be it? I'm absolutely not sure if 9.6 and 9v are interchangeable or not

your H-Pro should just barely make it, and plugging in the boss, it will fail to turn on, since it needs 300ma and the boss only supplies 200ma.

hows the temperature there? i think cold temperatures affect battery output too, that may explain the low batt warning even though you put in new ones. it should be fine after warming up a bit.
