Zoom B9

I am looking at the zoom B9.to use as a USB interface. i read somewhere that you cant monitor what you r playing unless u have a mixer and r connected.to your monitor speakers. is this true? the manual i read online said there r 2 settings. 1 being usb plus direct which sounded like you record through the usb but your sound should still come out your output jack that u connect the amp to. those of you that use the zoom for recording, what do you say? is this a good device to use as a usb interface to get a good recorded sound and to hear what ur a playing at the time of recording?

I don't have experience with the Zoom...but I use a Steinberg CI1 and I love it. It's only 99$ and comes with mixing and mastering software. It will do everything you mentioned in your requirements.

The steinberger looks intriguing. excuse my ignorance, i should be able to connect the speaker out from my amp to the 1/4 inch input on thee stein and connect usb from stein to pc and i can hear myself as i record, correct?? thanks for the suggestion Woodsbass

If you're going to be on, let me take some pictures of my setup for you, you can see for yourself how everything works! But yes, you can monitor yourself in several different ways using the CI1

Hmm...well apparently my camera doesn't want to work now. Well. On the CI1, there is two inputs. One is a Mic/Line input, and one is a Mic/Line/Hi-z line. If you want to run from your amp into the unit, you'll run a 1/4" cable from the output on your amp into the Mic/Line input. The nice feature about the other input is that you can run your bass directly into it.

As for monitoring, you can either plug your headphones into your amp, you can plug it into the CI1. There is a knob that controls the level going to the phones, and a mix knob that controls the input signal with the signal from the computer. You can make it so you're getting only one of the two.

On the back of the CI1 there are also two inputs for monitors, so it an work that way as well.

Ok thats cool i will just need to get a 1/4 inch to XLR cable and i should be in business

If the line out on your amp is XLR, then you can just use a full XLR cable. The CI1 takes XLR cables for both inputs.

sorry for bringing this thread back to the top.

But i have a CI1 and my question if i can record the 2 inputs on a differend track on the same time.
So, i play bass and some else plays the guitar at the same time and then record it. and then master the 2 tracks saperated from each other?
