anyone have/use one? did a search, was suprised to come up with nothing.

i've been searching high and love for "my" overdrive pedal. i dont like tubescreamers, dont want any fancy 2-footswitch-million-knob pedal, i just want some good sounding gritty light/med. overdrive with no low end loss..

can anyone say weather or not this pedal will be bass friendly?

i tried on in the store and was not blown away. It sounded ok but seemed to be better suited for guitar.

If you have a chance to try an OCD, they are really something!

just did some googling on the OCD.. looks like it has potential. i see its designed for guitar just like the box of rock..

hows the low end on the OCD? how much gain is there on tap? im looking for very subtle and up.. over the top can be nice, but i dont neccesarily need that..

ill look into it a bit more.

The OCD pedal is pretty good. It can go from subtle to crazy. Personally, I prefer a variety of subtle tones and I took the OCD back and got the FatBoost v3.

You really can't have looked too hard. Beefy:

or crunchy:

And you can have both if you want because this is Taco Bell.

I've also owned the OCD. The Box of Rock is better on the low end than the OCD for mild gain purposes. I've compared them side by side, I even had both of them (together) on my board at one point.

it sounds pretty good in that first clip.. but sounds like it might be questionable as a bass-dedicated dirt box. did you end up selling it? why?

The bass response you hear from my rig in the first clip is actually more bass response than the rig clean actually produces. My bad for not doing clean clips, but that bass sounds like crap clean so, you understand (sounds great with overdrive though). That's right, if you set it up right, the Box of Rock can actually boost your low end.

I did trade my Box of Rock, but only because I really needed some guitar work done and couldn't afford to pay cash for it, but really because I now own a Marshall Amp which is capable of the Marshall overdriven sound (obviously), and because I was getting an Orange Tiny Terror, ie: I now rely on amplifiers for my overdriven tones. The only thing, for my purposes, that I would consider over the Box of Rock as a dedicated overdrive pedal would be a Tubescreamer variant, which is a no go for you you say. So I'd say try the Box of Rock, it's definitely no Tubescreamer. You don't have to take that with too many grains of salt because I've owned probably over $30,000 worth of pedals, most of which was probably invested in overdrives. It's an obsession!

i'm surprised that nothing on the zvex distortron hasn't been at least mentioned. it's supposed to have the same design as the BOR except that it lacks a boost. but it makes up for that with a subs switch and cheaper price tag.

if i'm not mistaken the sub switch has 3 settings, which makes it capable of exceeding the BOR in terms of low end. i would say that makes it more suited for the bass all around.

and i'm also surprised that a search didn't yield any results for you. i think the BOR is rather popular with bassists, as far as drive pedals that are not specifically intended for bass are concerned.
