I think it's just the paint job.

Vexters are made in China. Actually there are a couple different grades of Vexter IIRC, not all of them are assembled in China, but that's the basic deal- regular ZVex are handmade by Zach and his crew, and Vexters are jobbed out to a manufacturer.

yeah, for the +$100 difference, I personally wouldn't buy anything but the vexter series. Even mass produced parts can be assembled correctly and end up as a durable high-quality product.
As soon as I get my bass/amp setup finalized I think I'm gonna spring for a Box of Rock

I think they use the same components in the Vexter series actually... I have compared the Vexter Box of Rock to the Hand Painted one, same tone. The big difference to me is that the handpainted versions have a lifetime warranty I think... I've been meaning to upgrade to a hand painted box of rock eventually just for that reason.

But yeah, the Box of Rock is the badassinest bass overdrive I've ever used out of probably tens of thousands of dollars spent on just overdrive/distortion pedals specifically for use with bass. If you want a little no nonsense rock bass grind the Box of Rock is IT in my book. In a transparent yet Marshally kind of way.

Yes, according to Zack, the same components are used.

That and the wicked paint job sometimes makes me wonder if it's worth it.
