Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!!

as long as i join this forum, there's a thing i always concern about choosing the right type of component (such as caps and resistor) for our beloved basses.

questions are:

1. how many type caps or resistor available in the market for audio purpose??
2. what kind of caps or resistor which best for basses??
3. what make this caps or resistor is better than another one??
4. how about the sound characteristic of each type??

thx for any help..

In theory, audible differences should be minimal or nonexistent if you use reasonable quality components. This just applies to inside basses, where we probably don't have to worry about voltage or power ratings.

Caps: Avoid electrolytics in signal path, or high values of ceramic caps, which can be microphonic. Polymer film caps of pretty much any type should be sufficient.

Resistors: Pretty much anything.

How about tantalums?? I heard it's forbidden to be used on any musical instrument?? Why?? Does the polarity become the problem?? Whereas tantalum is claimed to be the best cap because its accuracy on its value.
