[First post!] condsidering mod of my main bass

hi all you fellow bass players!

I've been lurking around on this forum for ages now - and never really saw any reason to create all the users since you can find TONS of information just by using the search button. so first of all I'd like to thank you all for hours and hours of entertainment and information.

next up I have a question regarding my bass:

see. I got this markbass littlemark II head - using it with a Barefaced cab ( yeah baby! only one in Denmark so far! ) and as per effects I just got my gritty little hands on a GT10B.

I currently own just 1 bass - a Läkland Skyline 55-01 - and just as I'm getting comfortable with neck and playability I'm getting rather frustrated over the sound comming out of this monster. It's all stock and I think I read somewhere in here that the standard preamp ( bert mk1) sounds like cardboard - of course this could also be the rest of my gear and not the bass, but I hardly believe that.

my question would therefore be - what setup ( preamp or pups - or even both) would you guys recommend ? I'm playing hard rock in conjunction with some ballads - meaning I need the sound to reflect both beauty and beast - mainly beast lol :d

ps. I saw a picture on here somewhere - can't find it now so I don't know the user - but it seemed he modded his läkland with some new soapbars nordstrand singles perhaps ? can't really remember.
anyways guru's! I need to pick you brains on this one - help this poor fellow bassplayer out and I'll dance naked to your wedding! ( well of course not! that would leave a huge disruption in the space/time continuom - but you'll get my gratitude, which I'm pretty sure you rather want anyways )

I don't really have any experience with any of those pieces of gear, so take this with a grain of salt.

New pups for my Lakland 55-94..........Nordstrand, Lakland, or Delano??

He seemed to have found a pretty aggresive tone with his setup and he wanted to upgrade to something smoother. Maybe his old setup for pre/pup will work in your case?

I commend your use of the umlaut. Welcome!

I think you deserve a round of applause for making your first post logical, to the point, and a decent question.

yeah that sounds like something I would want - hard to say though.
I'm not really sure how to describe my tone - it's kinda - too mid-ish I get closer to the sound I like if I turn down the mids a bit and the treble - but still not excatly what I look for. just trying to take the cardboard sound out of my bass

the "MK-1's" are bartolini's cheap stuff; "real" bartolini pickups and preamp might be the missing ingredient.
