[Help!] Modding my Fender Jaguar to a PJ

Sign in to disble this ad
Hola!

I'm planing to mod my Fender Jaguar to a PJ.
To get to the point more quickly here's a pic of what I'm planning to do:

my plan is to leave the P pup "always on" so, for the 3 switches, I was thinking: one for Bridge pup (on/off), the second for series/parallel between the pups, but for the third switch I have no idea what to do. I'm no expert in electronics, and I don't know what would give a major tonal difference, maybe series/parallel between the J pup coils?.

I will be using the dimarzio PJ set, the one with the Model J pup (double coil)

I was hoping you could give me some advice/suggestions for the third switch.

Thank you!!

Maybe a preset tone roll-off. (Instant mellow sound)

Depends what you are playing though. I'd use it in the church band, but not in my punk band.

But why not keep it simple and just have a switch for each pup and then a series/parallel?

Again, depends what you are doing. Don't make it more complicated than you need.

I'm a pick player and sometimes while playing I accidentally hit the switches and turn the sound off, also I never use the bridge pup soloed, just the neck pup or both.

I approve of this idea.

Let us know how it goes, it looks like it'd be a very nice setup.
If you want the all the bells and whistles, you can do the following: use one of the switches for switching the J pickup on/off, one for series/parallel for the neck pickup, one for series/parallel of the bridge pickup, and then get a push/pull pot as the volume pot and use that for series/parallel between the pickups.

Great idea! I can't believe I forgot about the push/pull knobs, thank you! I think I may stick to this idea.

How about different cap values for the third switch? No idea what you could use, but it's an idea.

cool, I had forgot about that!, sounds like a cool choice, maybe to add some more brightness to the sound, but I don't know which capacitors would be make a bigger difference. suggestions?

Thank you!
