3 Volume 1 Tone; does this wiring look O.K.?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all;

I'm adding a third pickup to a Jazz type of bass. I want to wire it as three Volume's and one Tone.

Does this diagram below look correct? Each volume control will be independent, so I am assuming you wire it like a Fender Jazz

Is this right?

Thanks

Mike

Oopps, that 'bridge tone' should just be 'tone'; it should affect all the pups' tone equally.

you got it right...each pickup hot goes to the wiper (middle lug) of each respective volume pot.

make sure that each volume pot has it's right lug grounded...

also, no lugs on the tone pot should be grounded (see part of a ground on your diagram). The capacitor connects to ground on one side, and right lug of your tone pot on the other.

Personally, I'd connect all my grounds in one spot, but if you're using decent sized wire and good soldering techniques, your system should not create any problems.

Thanks Pilbarabass for the the heads up.

I will show pics when the project is finished.
The alder body is a deep blue and I ordered a Carvin maple neck with rosewood and no dots on the fretboard (on the sides only)
It's a Carvin B4 with 2 jazz pups and I'm adding a Reverend P-bass pup right next to the end of the neck. I hope it will do some serious thump.

Well, it's finally finished !!
Adding that P-bass pup has made this thing sound HUGE !! Like a P-bass on steroids <G>

It was a Carvin B4 Bolt on. I special ordered a maple neck with rosewood fretboard; no dots on the FB.

I got a pair of Seymour Duncan Basslines vintage stacked humbuckers STK-J1 and a Reverend 8.7k P-Bass pup (no longer available; it was only $12)

I used Woodburst stain (turquoise and black mix) and Minwax Tung oil on the neck. I also left the final coats of the tung oil on the body but did not wipe it off, hence the gloss.

Below are some pix

The wiring diagram you all help with worked perfectly. Thanks All

Now you need to put another P in between the two Js! Imagine the tonal possibilities THEN...

Yeah, reversed P's between the J's. Then replace bridge J with a humbucker and become The God Of Tone!

Very cool mod!

That's a lotta magnets. Just curious to know if you've experienced any warbliness from the additional pull on the strings from the magnets?

And when you say "p-bass on steroids", does it still have a standard p-bass articulation? Since I imagine that moving the pbass pickup closer to the neck would muddy it up a little bit.

No warbliness, but two of my fillings shot out of my mouth <G>

What I meant about the p-bass on steroids is that it has great thump. kinda old-school Jamerson sounds.

Very cool. I keep wanting to add a far neck P pickup to my P bass or a far neck J pup to my jazz (kinda like a tele guitar).

I assume you have to run both J pups full at equal levels to get hum cancel (like a normal J bass).
