3-Way Switch on T-40 Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I've never used a 3-way switch that has acted in this manner, so I'm gonna make a guess and say that something is wrong.

When set to select the either just neck PU, everything's dandy. When set to the neck, sometimes my volume drops drastically and I have to tap rather firmly to get my volume back. When set to the center with volumes on both pickups even, it seems that I'm not getting an actual blend between the two pickups, just the bridge and maybe a smidge of the neck.

I can turn the neck pickup all the way down and still have all the bridge PU. On a regular, Les Paul style, switch, the whole output would cut.

I'm gonna put new strings on it soon, so I can poke around with the pickguard off when I do that. I just would like to know if all T-40's are like this and, if so, why? I'm used to a Les Paul style switch. I'd be willing to replace the switch as long as I can get a good diagram of what it should be.

Wish I had been able to find that diagram when I was fixing mine. Mine was is worse shape than it sounds like your's is in though. Both switches were broken off so I needed to replace both of switches and the neck pickup. So I'm not sure that I experienced your problem, but I did notice that sometimes the left over nub of the switches would move I would have sound problems. Thus I replaced all those things.
