3 Way switch V-T to V-V-T Wiring

Sign in to disble this ad
I have my Danelectro 63 reissue apart to make a pick guard and a few other things. While I have it apart I wanted to change the controls from the 3 way switch to a Jazz style V-V-T. I am a little confused on how I should do this. I have never seen a bass wired like the way this is. I hope someone can help. I do not want to loose the Dano sound but would like to blend the pups.

This is the harness as I took it out of the bass. It has 500k pots, volume pot has a 2A102J .001 uf cap and a Brown-Green-Yellow-Gold resistor 150k ohms

Tone pot 500k with a 2A104J .01uf

The switch is wired with the top post: Red from neck pup, jumper ground to switch body & black jumper to volume pot body ground.

Center post: Black from Neck pup, White from Bridge pup

Bottom post: Black from Bridge pup, White jumper to Volume pot end terminal.

What would be the best pot's and cap combination to use?

its easy and cheap

You can re-use the existing tone and volume pot, and tone cap. Alll you need to round up is another 500k volume pot. Or, use the 2 existing 500k pots for volume and get a 250k for the tone pot. You can remove and discard the existing small treble bleed cap.

Use the existing hole where the toggle switch goes to mount the volume pot, or whatever you design with your replacment pickguard.

If I was me, I would carefully unsolder everything, re-use the above mentioned parts, and replace all the wire with matching red and white (or black or whatever) 26 guage stranded wire, for a clean look.

Wire it up like this:

Thanks, I planned to wire it like a Jazz bass, 250k pots & .047 cap but did not know what it would do to the tone.
