3 way tone switch

Sign in to disble this ad
So I picked up an sx fretless. I am going to be adding a piezo pickup. That will be replacing the current tone pot. I would like to do a switchable tone toggle switch. Similar to the varitone rotary switches like the one offered on Rothstein's website(http://www.guitar-mod.com/wiring/cti...ass_wiring.gif).
I am wanting two capacitors and a bypass on a mini 3 way (on-on-on) toggle switch(http://cgi.ebay.com/On-On-On-Guitar-...QQcmdZViewItem). Any suggestions on cap values and wiring?

.1uf
.047uf
.039uf
.022uf
.015uf

That switch works like a 3-way pickup switch; one on, both on, the other one on. To get a cap bypass you have two positions giving you the same cap, and the other position being the bypass. I'd forget about the bypass or use another switch.

Cap values add when they're in series. That makes it easy to fine tune.

You could have it with a .022 on one side, and .047 on the other; the middle would be .069.

You could go .032 (.022 + .01) on one side, .069 (.022 + .047) on the other side; the middle would be .101uF.

It's worth it to buy a few and test them in your bass with alligator clips or wire nuts before soldering. That way you can pick your favorites and just solder once.

Hi hate to tell you when caps are in series they get smaller ie the total cap size is Smaller than the smallest cap. In Parrell its the reverse.
With Resistors they get bigger in series & smaller in parellel.
