4 jazz pickups?

Sign in to disble this ad
just a thought that occured to me while skecthing bass designs on a train journey today. The idea is to have 4 jazz pickups, one in the standard bridge and one in the standard neck positions for say the 70's fender jazz positions (or w.e suits you), the 3rd would go either bang up under the neck or as close as to allow for comfortable slapping etc and the 4th literally nustled as close as possible to the middle(neck) jazz bass position pup with the 2 closest to the neck and the 2 closest to the bridge wired to a mini switch for pup1-series-pup2 wiring, then each switch would feed into a blend pot... my thoughts, although slightly OTT were that this would allow you to get pure jazz tones... deeper neck (pup closest to neck) tones, as well as humbucker sort tones by combining pups, since i like my jazz bass with both pups on full i thought this would almost allow you to get that tone but shunted towards the neck or bridge or both depending upon the pups you chose to run together etc. I thought of combining what would be the 2 middle pups into one of those double jazz pickup beasts u can get from most pup manufacturers but then wiring options started to confuse me.

any feedback? i must stress that this is purely an idea probably wont ever reach creation just wondered if any1 say any downfalls or had ideas or done similiar?

I always thought of modding a jazz bass with two double jazz soapbars that are splittable. Kind of like a Fender Roscoe Beck but in typical jazz bass positions.

They are in typical jazz positions, that was one of the design points, in single mode they are in proper jazz setup.

Sounds interesting, if a bit quirky.
