| If the J pickup is a split-coil, then the gap between the coils is going to fall directly under the A string. It probably won't be sensed at all, or you might barely hear it (at best) when you play it hard.
You may also have strange dropouts on the P pickup, depending on how well the coils line up under the strings. For example, you could find that the B, A and G strings are quiet, while the E and D strings are loud.
The only types of pickups which are completely safe to move between 4-string and 5-string basses are single coils, stacked coils or dual-coil humbuckers, assuming the coil(s) are wide enough to pick up all the strings. Also, it's probably only a good idea to try this when the pickups have continuous blades, not polepieces.
