The Aero PJ IS a Pbass pickup. So, not "P-like", but IS A P pup.

I, for one, can hardly tell the difference between the neck J p'up and a P p'up. They sound the same to me.

Ditto for the most part.

I've had Nordstrand NJ5FSs, Bartolini CBJD1s, and Delano something-or-others (all humcancelling) and dialed to the bridge with a little cut in the highs and they all could EASILY pass for P basses.

well, let's assume i can tell a difference (I can, actually - P-bass is "barkier" than neck J-bass, with more mid). So what then?

Any jazz pickup that is a humbucker and not a single coil that also can be wired series or parallel will work. Most humbuckers are parallel which will scoop mids and give it a clean modern sound. The p-bass humbucker (and a few others) is wired serial. This will boost mids and give it a nastier, dirtier, tone.

I installed a Nordstrand np5 five strings Precision style pickup. Very vintage precision sounding, very happy with it

The tone is similar (I favor the neck pickup for that reason) but the P-bass is more scooped.
