5 String Knobs

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a schecter studio 5 and as I was trying to get used to the extra string I realized the extra knobs. Im coming from a 2 knob starter bass with had tone and volume. I found the tone and volume on here but I dont know what the other 3 are for... My googling isnt helping very much and I doubt im even googling the right thing.

A 5-string can still have 2 knobs!

Your bass, in addition to having a 5th string, has a preamp inside which uses a battery. One day you'll know this because the bass will start to distort indicating that the battery is flat.

You controls are most likely an individual volume control for each of the 2 pickups (they will have slightly different, but complimentary sounds. I like one on full and one on about 75%, usually). The other three knobs are the equaliser. Bass, middle and treble. They'll probably sound slightly different to your amp's bass, middle and treble.

Enjoy!

Although you'll have to figure out which is which. I'm betting the top two knobs (they look larger?) are the volume and blend (between the two pickups), and the three lower (smaller?) knobs are the eq.

I noticed that when I turned the "tone" the other way I got more volume! The only one I really use is the treble though. When I turn the up the middle I get more of the muffled sound and the bass obviously turns up the bass. And you were right again: the controls are a lot different than my amp. Thanks for the help!

Leave the mids at ten

Does 5 on the amp and 5 on the bass count?

haha

I suggest leaving any knob that has a 'click' at the click, until you get to a song that you need a temporarily different tone for. The click is meant to be when the EQ isn't doing anything (not cutting, not boosting).

Unless you're using a boost-only preamp.

TS, the volume knob is closest to the neck pickup, the blend knob is the other big knob. The 3-band EQ is the smaller 3 knobs and, from the neck pickup over is Bass, Mid, Treble.
