Jazz bass that have more of a strong lower mid range. Any suggestions?. Also I have a set of Bartolini 59j's, will these fit, and how do they sound?. I know they are not singles, but I already own them.

Question

Have you considered wiring your jazz bass in series ??? I did this to my SX 5 string jazz bass, best mod I ever did, thickened up the sound to near p-bass likeness .

I did that to my SX 5 too and it kills! (on a rotary switch so you can select) I also did the same mod to my Fender deluxe V and I'm sorry to report it did NOT work. With the MIM noiseless pickups the sound seemed exactly the same for series and parallel (except for the usual change in volume). The low bass did not thicken like the SX did.

I presume the problem is the MIM noiseless pickups which I don't like the sound of anyway. I DO however love the fact they don't hum like mad when singled! Which leaves me with the same questions as this thread: Which "noiseless" pickups should I buy to mod this bass that will work properly with the series/parallel switch and will have a decent tone even normally? The MIM noiseless pups are clearly not it!

Please stop shouting.

Measure the length of the pickups in you bass.

If the neck pup is 3 5/8" on the bridge pup is 3 11/16" then the pickups are standard 4-string size. I have a Hohner B Bass V which uses standard 4-string EMG Select pickups and this works perfectly. I had a pair of double-rail Joe Bardens on there to & they were magnificent.

If your pickups conform to the above then any rail-type of pickup will work as they are standard size. These include EMG Selects & Hz, Bartolini and Joe Barden to my certain knowledge and there may be more unbeknown to me.

However, if they do *not* conform to the above measurements, you must note the correct sizes & search the pickup-makers websites - I'd start with Bartolini, EMG and Norstrand as they tend to make items which fit some of the rarer sizes.

And take off your caps lock.
